sports animes are really good for "real life japanese" things...ie: Eyeshield 21 (totally reccomend, tis completely awesome), Whistle!, Prince of Tennis (again, highly reccomended...we worship PoT, seriously, we have a site and all lol)...mm Rurouni Kenshin is pretty much normal, samurai goodness...going with the samurai theme, Samurai Champloo. It's taking a step back in history, but it's still good stuff ^__^

Most animes concerning the relationships of yaoi and yuri tend to be more in the real life scenario. I think Shojo Beat is filled with "normal" stories.

Someone said Love Hina..that's a good one..mm oh there's this one..really cute...Strawberry Eggs, I My Me (i think!!) something or other...it's been awhile since I watched it, but it was adorable. Oh, Hikaru no Go! Tis another good one. er well, it does have a bit of "supernatural" but the majority of it is based on the board game Go.

hmm...that's all I can think of at the moment. Perhaps I'll come back with some other suggestions later when I think a bit more clearly ^__^

How common do you want? No one has super powers in Azumanga Daioh, but it's really wacky and unrealistic. Gokusen also has no super powers but pushes the edges of realism as well. Nanaka 6-17 is another touching story that has not-too-common circumstances. Twin Spica was also uncommon, but didn't have super powers (a ghost, though).

For more realistic stuff, there's Princess Nine (about a girls' school starting a baseball team), Chance Pop Session/Triangle Pop Session (about three girls starting a singing trio), Hana Yori Dango/Boys Before Flowers (about a girl who stands up to the school bullies), Kare Kano/His and Her Circumstances (two high school smart kids fall in love). Maria-sama Ga Miteru/The Virgin Mary is Watching Over You (about students at a Catholic girls' school)

If you like older stuff, there's Maison Ikkokou (about a loser student and the other losers who rent rooms in the same place), Mizuiro Jidai (about a middle school girl and the pain of growing up), and Fashionable Judo Girl Yawara (about a young woman whose granfather wants her to be a judo champion but she wants to be a normal girl).

I'd also suggest the movie Perfect Blue, and some of the others by the same director (e.g., Millenium Actress).

Man, you're really cutting yourself off from the best anime with no magic powers.

You can try GTO (little old), Love Hina, Okusama wa Josei Kosei (My wife is a high school girl), Ichigo 100%, Kashimashi, Ai Yori Aoshi, Ah! My Goddes TV & TV 2, D.C ~Da Capo~, Futakoi & Futakoi Alternative, I's Pure, Kanon, Onegai Twins,REC. Some of them is new anime.

Koi Kaze and Azumanga Daioh are both good shows that show quite a bit about everyday life in Japan. Azumanga is a wacky comedy about girls in high school, but Koi Kaze (I warn you) is about sibling incest, though I have to say it's the most tasteful show about sibling incest I have ever seen.
