When your sytem is still booting, hit the F8 key (may be different, depending on your motherboard/BIOS settings) or DEL key. This will take you to either the BIOS settings or the boot menu. Either way, you'll need to set it to boot from the CD drive. If you're taken to a boot menu, select CD drive and hit "Enter". If you're taken to BIOS, navigate yourself to the boot sequence and make sure that the CD drive is the first on the list.

From this point, it'll boot straight to the disc in the CD drive, where you'll be able to install Windows XP.

I assume, you tried setting it up earlier and it didn't install correctly and now you are in trouble...

It happenes sometimes. Sadly you'll need a major rescue. The partition table has probably been wiped out by the XP installer. If you have data you need to retrieve, then connect the hard drive to another computer and use a partition recovery tool like Active Partition Recovery. After which you will be able to retrieve your data.

At this point just reformat your comp and install Win 98.

All will be well.

You have to boot from the CD. Put the CD in and restart computer, hold down F2 and go maintenance tab then rearrange the order from which it boots. Install the CD then remove, restart computer and hold down F2 again and change maintenance back to what it was. This just happened to me two weeks ago.

nope, you need to chanbe the BIOS top set CD rom as first bootable device, then hardrive
the message you got is due to your wipedrive doing exaclty as it was going to do, and thus wiped the partion in formation or at the minumum command.com

I'll say one thing, considering how many times you've ask the same question you really do not know what the hec you are doing

You have to go into the cmos and change your settings so that it boots from the cd before it boots from the HD.
