You can usually tell if a piece of cloth is fake, because fakes can't use the real name or logo of a designer fashion on their imitations. For example, imitators may spell Gucci wrong and have an upside down G as the logo. Also, the fakes are usually sold at outlet stores or purse stands, and usually say "Made in Taiwan." If the price is also low, it's most likely fake. You just have to know how the real one looks like and look for small mess ups imitations always have.

Some clues:

The price. A new Louis Vuitton handbag for $100 is not authentic. The real thing often sells for $500 to well over $1000. Same thing for Prada and Gucci.
Where it's being sold. Authorized dealers for Chanel, LV, etc. do not sell handbags out of the trunk of a car. Nor do they sell them at online auctions or at home parties.
Point of origin tag. Designer apparel or leather goods with a "Made in Taiwan" tag are not authentic.

look at certain things that you pay the extra 100 for like in the louis vuiton cherry print they came out with last year, the cherries were all evenly spaced and perfectly placed on the bag, where as on the fake ones i saw the cherries were much closer together and some were even upside down! look for finishing details like that, like how close together the stiches are and you should also be able to see "louis vuiton" on any stud that is on the bag and how light it is also, if the fabric seems really light, then most likley its not real. also make sure you know where your buying it, if your buying it from anywhere else than holt renfrew or a big department store that sells designer bags, you can expect it to be fake

I know that with prada, they never imprint on their fabrics. they use a metal label which is sewn in to the material. if the label is imprinted, then the 'prada' is fake. gucci-- im not so sure how to tell, so unfortunately you may just have to wait and see if you notice any fraying, or damage that occurs right away. you shouldn't see any strings hanging or anything like that. if it's not durable, it's probably imitation.

I would visit the real stores - Gucci, Prada, Nordstroms...look at the bag and observe elements of the real thing. Now you have a frame of reference. Generally, if you see frayed fabric or shoulder straps, it is not the real thing. If it feels like "pleather" or a cheap fabric, its not the real thing.

Go for the hand feel, if it feels cool and smooth to touch, if it feels expensive and if it can only be dry cleaned, then it is for REAL. It is also good to look at the labels. Generally the labels of the name brands are fastidiously made and you can easily tell from the hard work they have done on their labels just how real they are. Beware of printed labels, those will most likely be fake.

Well, for Jordan sneakers the jumpman symbol has to be faced a certain way. Its the little stuff that helps you spot out the fakes if you look hard enough.

The construction--look inside at the finishing details. Fakes are easy to spot this way.

If it was purchased from a Street Vendor, at a Flee Market, in Mexico, etc., it is probably fake!
