Please give us aquarium experts more details. Like, how big is your tank? Do you want freshwater fish or marine (saltwater) fish? How often are you willing to feed them? Etc., etc.

Okay, here's my suggestion (perfect for your tank):

1. Get a pure dark, plain, black background
2. Get dark brown stone gravel
3. Get a couple of green plants (live or fake, doesn't matter)
4. Get a fake brown small tree log to rest against the bottom
5. Get a heater and set it at 77 degrees F
6. Get about 6 Neon Tetras

This will be a VERY BEAUTIFUL, eye-catching tank, i guarantee.

In a ten gallon aquarium you can have 1 goldfish. That's it for the goldies.

If you want 5 or so then try community tropical. Try 4 long fin zebra danios and 2 panda corys. All your fish would be black and white.

Gouramis would be nice- a pair. maybe a few danios or tetras wit them.

Killiefish are a beautiful alternative for a small tank- they are hard to find though.

You could do a school of 4-5 tiger barbs. They are slightly aggressive but beautiful. They get to be a little larger then the other fish mentioned.

loaches are always fun fish to check out, they do well in most community tanks. Swordtails are also a popular fish-they may need salt though- I have never kept them.

If you decide on tropical community then the genral rule is 1" of fish per gallon.

Stay away from guppies platys and mollies if this is your first tank- they need salt to stay healthy. If you don't give them some salt then they get sick very easily.

check out a local petstore. See if anything catches your eye and then ask a lot of questions. Find out what conditions they need, heater, food, tankmates. Then make an informed decision.

Visit an aquarium store, check the tanks, make a list of the fish that appeal to you and will fit your budget, then ask the staff about the care and feeding of those fish. After eliminating the fish combinations that don't work, recheck the prices and make your selections.

No matter what fish you choose, make sure you go to the local bait shop and purchase some minnows to put in the a tank. At least a dozen. These minnows devour the algae and keep your tank healthy...its a known fact! Those sucker fish do the same thing, but are not as presentable. When I put minnows in my tank;I had less slime in my filter system...it's truly remarkable.

i strongly dont recomend goldfish. i mean helooo! one per 10 gallons? choose tropical fish instead. they have great temperament(not all though) and are very cute. goldfish arecute too but the most butiful ones are hard to keep and some are not as hardy as some people say so. i love mollies especially the balloon ones! i currently only have one right now and i want to give is some companions besides the loach. choose mollies! MOLLY POWER!

American Flag fish are the cutest fish you could get for a 10 gallon. They don't get very big and they are a lot of fun! Maybe you could get a couple of those and some Dwarf Rainbowfish!

Goldfish have such characters so its ok to have about 5, a cheap way is to buy them small, even the goldfish they use as feeders, we have some, they are great, you buy them small , be sure to chose healthy ones, you can buy them for about 12c each at the pet shop. They are also pretty hardy fish and come in pretty colors.

None.

Fish don't belong imprisoned in a little aquarium. They should be free to swim in the ocean or lake that they came from. How would you like to shoved in a glass square with no where to go? How cruel. have some compassion. WHERE IS THE HUMANITY????? Everyone----release your pet fish now---give them their freedom!!!!! Take them to the nearest lake or ocean and let them join their fellow fish and live the rest of their lives FREE!!!!!!!!!!

You've been offered some great suggestions, but I have to chime in and say that a 10 gallon tank is not suitable for even a single goldfish, so please avoid them.
