The way to prevent spyware is really easy. Microsoft is offering its customers a complete protection against spyware and adware free of cost. It's called "Windows Defender". I've been using it and also it has real-time protection. Remember in order to download "Windows Defender", you need to have a genuine Windows Operating System. Please do check the system requirements before you download the same. Also ensure that you don't download Windows Defender x64 onto your system if you don't have a dual-core processor. It's always safe to download the normal Windows Defender so that you don't have trouble on your system. Of course, if you have a 64-bit processor from Intel or AMD, then and only then download Windows Defender x64 edition. The link to downloading Windows Defender is as given below.
Also, if you have spyware, you can use Windows Live Safety Scan to remove existing spyware. Please note that this isn't a replacement for an anti-spyware product but can only remove spyware that's on your system. Hope you will be successful in removing spyware.

The best way to prevent spyware from automatically downloading itself on your machine without installing any form antispyware software.......... set your security setting to high.

This will prevent you from downloading any active x applications etc.

Now if you want to download files set it back to medium, download your file and the set the security setting back to high.

Also while setting is set to medium don't go browsing to other site.

This setting can be found under internet option -> security tab

This method can be more safer as even the most uptodate antispyware program cannot detect a spyware program written 3min ago which downloaded to your computer and is gathering information

Make sure you have a good antivirus program. Don't download random programs, they often have spyware. I believe some of the antispyware programs have preventitve measures in them. I've included a link from download.com that may help. You have to be careful where you go on the internet.

There are some very good programs that prevent spy-ware and ad-ware from causing you problems. My favorite has a 30 day free trial, it's by Webroot and the program is called Spy Sweeper.

The world's known Anti-Spyware is known as Ad-aware.
You can download it's free version or the paid version. I have the same experience of both.
