Yes, your body does eventually clear the symptoms of HPV. Doctors used to think that once you had HPV, you had it for life, but now they know that HPV is more like a common cold. HPV actually refers to a family of viruses. Once you've had one strain of HPV, it's like getting over a strain of the cold virus--you can never get that strain of HPV back again. It usually takes about two years for your body to clear that strain of HPV from your system, but always make sure you get your yearly Pap smears to make sure that the HPV has, in fact, gone away and hasn't gotten any worse.

Not having sex will prevent you from becoming exposed to other strains of HPV. Just because you've had one strain of HPV in the past doesn't mean you are then immune to all strains of HPV--you could get a new strain of it from a new sex partner and it could cause symptoms all over again.

There is no "cure" for HPV infection, although in most women the infection goes away on its own. The treatments provided are directed to the changes in the skin or mucous membrane caused by HPV infection, such as warts and pre-cancerous changes in the cervix.

Yes. HPV sheds on its own in way over half the people who get it. But, it's more like ten years without an outbreak before you are considered HPV free.

You can't get rid of HPV... you have it for the rest of your life, and having no symptoms means absolutely nothing.
