There may be an addmentment to the constitution allowing same sex couples to recieve a tax-break. It might even go further into debate as allowing some states the choice of having the possibility to allow same-sex mariages. What do you guys, and gals think?

Yes. I did make an error, sort of. I admit it. The admentment proposed is primarily to allow same sex couples tax incentive and share joint tax returns like other marriages do. However another proposition was made previously to ban same-sex marriages in some states. What I meant was that the Federal Constitution may in the future specify what states can continue the states rights policy on this issue. The constitution does currently allow the states right polociy on this, but most states have usually been against same sex marriage. Sorry for the confusion, sorry for my error.

The Constitution already permits such, under the Equal Protection clause. That's why MA can have gay marriages.
The amendment was to ban gay marriages. It will fail in both houses.

It is all election year rhetoric. We will not see any significant changes for several years to come. On top of which, the federal government is once again trying to regulate something that is a state level decision. Bush is trying to garner support as he is flagging in the polls again (around 30%). The problem is, too many people in the Federal Gov't are trying to answer a legal question with a moral/religious answer, and it just doesn't work. Remember, this country was based on the seperation of Church and State.

There should be an Equal Rights Amendment where people are treated equally. That is, gays can marry, men and women earn the same wages, and you cannot be denied a job unless you don't qualify to perform its duties. Race, sex, orientation, and the like should have nothing to do with it.

There should be equal rights for all people. Gay, lesbian, and bisexuals want to marry who they love just like straight people. At one time it was thought that different races should not marry but that is now a thing of the past when people saw how ignorant they were being. Someday people will come around. Love is love and rights are for every living thing, not just the things like you.
