Yes, its demonic. The demons provide witches, fortune tellers etc with supernatural powers to forsee future events etc. I stay away from it.

It depends a lot on the reader -- some are gifted and some are scam artists. A good reader can look at the cards, and a story will emerge. A scam artist will ask a lot of open ended questions.
For example, let's say most of the cards that came up were coins. A good reader recognizes the symbolism and the correspondences, figures out the situation by the placement in the spread. A person who is just in it for money, will say something like, "You've been concerned about finances..." and let you jump in with more info.
The cards are just a way of focusing your attention -- a meditation tool if you wish. There are no demons involved, and the cards do NOT guarantee a future outcome. What they do is provide insight into the question and provide some possible options based on how things are. It's just a matter of understanding the representations, and letting your mind do what it needs to,

I use the cards, but I generally think of them as more of a way to clarify my own thinking than as "fortune telling," for lack of a better word. The cards can't really tell you anything you don't know because you don't know it. Each card just has a general meaning, and it's up to you to relate it to your life. What you see in your spread has a lot to do with how you feel about your situation. If you're really interested, the best book I've ever found about Tarot is called Choice Centered Tarot. Check it out.

I've been doing Tarot readings for many years. Sometimes they give accurate insights into people's motives and fears. People are less successful at predicting the future. It's a fun game and connects very well to the Kabbala and to astrology. Christian fears that the Tarot leads to black magic are completely off the wall. You can get online readings for free from www.llewellyn.com

I do Tarot readings, and contrary to belief, I am not a consort of Satan. Yes, it is legit. The how for me is I found a deck that appeal to me and my sensitivities. That is how I am able to read things I could not possible have known. I have heard stories of evil things happening to others, but personally know of no one who like bursted into flames, because they read tarot cards.

Apparently geniusflightnurse answered the wrong question seeing as how she knows nothing about tarot.
Tarot cards are useful and they can be used as a guide in your life. However, you do need to find a reputable reader in order to be able to trust the cards. It's hard to find a really good reader but you can look them up. Usually a good reader will tape record the reading so that you can listen to it later on and properly absorb the information being given to you.
Good luck, and I hope you find them useful.
Remember: Cards are not evil, but some of the people who use them are.
