I've always been interested with cars my whole life, so i've looked around and i'm drawn to the '02 Pontiac Grand Am's, and more recently the '05 Toyota Matrix..
I like the Grand Am because its a mid-sized car; in the back it has reasonable foot/leg room, its a good sturdy/reliable car, PLUS it's a 4 door, which I love, I absolutly hate 2 doors!
And with the Matrix, it's pretty much the same things that I love -- it's spacious. One thing I dont like however is that it's a hatchback, and parts are usually more expensive, but i've overlooked that for now.
I'd really love any suggestions that anyone may have as to ;
1. A good reliable car.
2. Inexpensive to repair and/or aquire replacement parts if needed (i.e. Toyota's parts are usually more expensive than Dodge etc.)
3. 4 Door!! Must be! :)
Thanks for your help and advice!! :)

Grand Am's and grand prixs are pretty good cars. there are tons of them on the road so finding parts isn't that hard. i work at a parts store and the prices are not that expensive. of coarse certain things are going to be expensive ex. fuel pump, ECM, thing like that. since your getting your first car try and get front wheel drive, the grand Am's and grand prixs are. rear wheel drive can be bad when it is slick out. the grand Am's and grand prixs have good motors in them too. they last a long time.

I had a grand am, and my mother had two. I didn't like it at all. I don't think it rated really high. Of course I don't know about the 2002. The car had a lot of plastic parts on the interior that rattled and broke. I have a Honda Civic, and I love it. I have had it 6 and half years, and never had a problem (It still drives like the day I bought it). I'm not worried about the price of parts because I don't replace them often. I was always replacing parts on the Grand Am.

How about a scion xb? OR A honda element. I would assume your 16 or 17 like me, since its your first car. The Grand Am's are cool but you have to keep in mind they depreciate faster. The Matix is really cool, I've rode in one before, the seats are comfartable, its fun to drive, & Toyotas are good vehicles. As far as the expense's for pay sorry I don't know too much about that.

Grand am is concidered a sports car your insurance will be sky high. Matrix is a Pretty dope ride. About the insurance and where you live but in Michigan they run your credit to determin your that you will pay. Matrix would be cheaper insurance wise. I feel ya on the 2 door thing it sucksespecially when you hasve ppl getting in and out of your car all the time you haver to get out to.lol

Another good car to consider is the Hyundai Sonata (excellent warranty and the new body style is very nice). If you're not into Hyundai's, you could try the G6 by Pontiac or the Mazda 3 Sedan. Both are very nice sedans with reasonable amounts of power while still being affordable and very nice looking.

Grand Ams are junk. Matrix or Vibe is okay, but there are better:
Nissan Altima 2.5
Honda Civic
Ford Focus ZX5
Toyota is highly overrated. they're old peoples' car and have had millions of recalls, plus engine oil sludge issue they've covered up.

Get a Toyota. The parts are more expensive because you replace them less frequently. American cars are made to fall apart.

Toyota is a better car, parts are more but simply it breaks down less so you don;t need them as often. Better gas mileage, Hell of a lot better resale value. Cheaper Insurance. The benefits go on and on and on......

I wish I could recommend buying American, but the Japanese still are way ahead of us on this one. Honda or Toyota all the way. You can find a sporty one that fits your need. Good luck.
