The Gay Marriage Amendm't was a wedge issue for Bush in election 2004, and got promptly forgotten after election.
But even if he really did care, NOBODY, no Dem. no Rep, thinks it has any chance whatsoever of getting two-thirds in congress, much less ratification by the states.
So ... why is the issue being dusted off again?
A. The huge rush of Massachussetts gays honeymooning in Tennessee?
B. Iraq is under control ("mission accomplished!"), the war on terrorism is won, and Bush is soaring in the polls.
C. Gay marriage affects daily lives of Americans far more than the economy, gas prices, government wiretapping, or social security.
D. The whole purpose of the Constitution to "define" words, or restrict rights.
E. Politicians get points with every repetition of the phrase "activist judges" in a speech or talk show.
F. It's an election year again!
...And nothing gets the religious conservatives and culture warriors out to the polls than pictures of gay people kissing on TV.

The issue is being "dusted off" again, because Judges in the USA are attempting to "create" law, instead of following the word and the spirit of the constitution.
If Judges would quit trying to "legalize" gay marriage, then the issue would not keep resurfacing.
If the Gay community would like to legalize gay marriage, then they need to petition states, or their federal representatives to give them the rights through law, not through changing the "meaning" of existing laws, tradition, and constitutional rights by finding a sympathetic judge.
I don't care if Gays have marriage rights or not, but I do care that judges try to change the law.
And yes, F is right, if it wasn't an election year the issue would not be in play. But there are 100's of liberal items being brought up this year because it is an election year also.
We just all need to realize, the BS does not stop until we get term limits for Representatives and Congressmen. As long as they can hold onto power by pandering to people year after year, nothing will change, and things will just keep getting worse. Now there is a Constitutional Amendment worth pursuing..

It's completely an election year attention-getter. Too bad none of the ultra-conservative knuckleheads who actually believe gay marrige will destroy the fabric of American society have ever heard of the separation of church and state, because every single one of 'em says "oooh, the bible says only a man and a woman can get married... it's supposed to be Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve..."
The sad part is, a lot of them are going to fall for it. Watch out! Last time this happened, we ended up with four more years of Our Fearless Leader!

Gay marriage was promptly forgotten in '04? I do believe that some 19 states successfully banned it since then, including my state of Ohio. And by the way, he's not suckering anyone, we know what our reps are voting for and want them to vote that way.

Some people should just leave the gays/etcs alone. They're happy the way they are but not with those homophobics out there.
They've probably forgotten about it because it's not that big of an issue besides all of those protests.

I help the liberty to marry whoever you choose, and that i help many different freedoms too. in certainty, i'm a "freedom freak". i think of as many human beings would desire to have as a lot freedom as they are able to stand and nevertheless functionality. what's with each and all the outrage? Do you adult adult males walk around all day hectic approximately gays and lesbians? i'm seventy one years previous, straight away, married, and if some guy needs to marry a hoot owl or a billy goat or a fencepost. that is high quality with me. I actually have a lot extra constructive issues to agonize approximately....

You say "religious conservatives" like they are not numbered in the multiple millions!!! I don't like that label cause it doesn't fit, but gay marriage is something that I'd vote against. Most Americans don't want gay marriage. People who vote morally are not stupid. They have a knowledge that you have not attained to. You belittle what you can't fathom. What you belittle is life and death to you: but you don't know it. What good is an education, ha, if you miss salvation and belittle it? How big can your brain be, if in the realm of possibilities, you omit the possibility of The Creator?

I agree that it is ridiculous. I have a feeling that some people would follow Hitler if he came and promised to ban gay marriage. Willing to do so much to hurt the country just so that they can hurt a minority group. Kinda extreme, very stupid.

I'm sick of hearing about this crap. I don't see why people get so pissed off that there are gay people they don't even know. There are drug dealers they don't know, and people don't care. There are murderers they don't know, and people don't care.
Oh, and I'm a Baptist and a republican. I just feel that I shouldn't care if someone wants to live a life different than mine.
