0 - potatoes don't grow in trees.
Now, I'm going to humor you and assume potatoes do in fact grow in trees (just like money).....
- Start with x (= 30).
- You lose (1/3)x.
- You gain 5*(x - [1/3]x).
- You lose (1/2)*5*(x - [1/3]x).
The last "step" is really your expression. Evaluate it by substituting 30 for x, and you get.....
(1/2)*5*(30 - [1/3]*[30])
= (1/2)*5*(30 - 10)
= (1/2)*5*(20)
= 50

Taters grow underground but assuming you invented a magical potatoe tree... 50 would be left (30-10=20.... 20*5=100.... 100/2=50)

What? A potato tree? Hmmm
If they keep falling out, you're going to have a mighty pile of mashed potatoes at the bottom of that tree...

I AGREE--POTATOES DO NOT GROW IN A TREE--BUT IF 1/3 FALL OUT (THUS INTO THE GROUND, RIGHT??) THEN IF 1/2 OF THOSE 'FALL OUT', TECHNICALLY, THERE WOULD BE 25 LEFT.
