You can't buy Freon unless you have a license.Any one selling you Freon can go to jail the Freon don' cost that much, but the service call does. The last drum I bought was $89 dollars two weeks ago [that's 30lb. of R22].That will fill up 3 or 4 heat pumps.I sell it for $8 a lb.That's $151 profit.

alright lets just say, freon is deffinently legal, just certain kinds arent being mass produced anymore such as r-12, but anyways psychos. you yourself can not get freon need to be 608 certifed, and thats a whole bunch of training and a test you need to take for that, and after that it costs depending on the type of freon will cost a good chunk of change. and if you need to recharge it that most likely means you have a leak, which you should just get repaired.

ON the inside of your unit on a black cylinder it will say what freon goes with your unit. If it R-34 (its been awhile,so I think this is right) it has been banned and will require conversion to R-134.If this is what is you need ,you would save money to just buy new ones.BUT to answer your question you MUST be E.P.A. certified to buy ANY freon any more. You need a contractor. Good Luck

I don't think they use freon much anymore they have something new that is more environmentally safe, well at lest for cars anyway. You have to be a licensed contractor to get freon in my state.

It is going to cost as much or almost as much to try to recharge you unit as to buy a new one.
Also, if the refrigerant is low there is a good chance there is a leak and it is likely the coils. So the cost to repair the unit may be even more than just adding refrigerant.

the freon in the unit is R-22, and you cannot purchase it yourself. EPA requires a refrigeration license. best thing to do is if its out of warranty, trash it and buy a new one. trust me will be a lot cheaper.

HOW old are your units. Freon - forgot the number...is NOT legal anymore. Everything needs to be "up to code" now.
So you REALLY need to specify what year the unit is to get accurate answers.

since freon is bad for ozone layer, only certified shops can work on AC's. But I am sure if you buy a beer or two for the guys who work there, they'll help ya out.
