A gallon of water is considered to weigh around 8 pounds net weight. So a 5 gallon jar would weigh in excess of 40 pounds. Eight times five.

1 gallon = 3785 ml...
1 gram of water = 1 ml of water so...
3785 ml of water = 3785 grams of water = 3.785 kg of water
1 kg = 2.2 pound so...
3.785 kg of water = 7.57 pounds of water
1 gallon of water is equal to about 7.57 pounds of water so 5 gallons of water weighs... 37.85 pounds
