My neices and nephew really like to sing and do choreographed dances so I want to try and get them interested into musicals. They've already seen high school musical and have the soundtrack and like to sing and dance to it. I am babysitting them on Friday and wanted to bring something different over their house. I was thinking maybe Annie, or The Sound of Music, or maybe Oliver! but I'm open to suggestions.

I can't figure out how to edit but I made a typo where it says "I want to get them interested into musicals" it should say "I want to get them intested in musicals"
Also it is a stretch to call Grease family friendly, come on now "I feel like a broken typewriter...I skipped a period" I don't want to explain what that means.

To the person who gave me the "movie mom" link that is so great and it reminded me of "The Phantom of the Opera" which I would totally pick to be the one if I was only watching the 11 and 10 year old, although it does have a little sexuality in "The music of the night" so I'd probably have to ask permission before I let them see it but that is the best musical to movie I have ever seen.

They have probably seen the Disney Classics like Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Lion King and Snow White.
The best musical of all time (IMHO) is Singing in the Rain ' "Be A Clown", "Moses Supposes", "Broadway Melody" and the title number (with Gene Kelly). No bad language, but the story may be a little advanced for younger kids.
Doctor Doolittle is sort of silly, but has lots of good songs. The Sound of Music is a good choice, because it features kids their age. And songs you can sing along to. Same with Annie or Oliver!
"My Fair Lady" is great, and the older girls would probably like it a lot, but the younger kids would probably get bored. Very tame by the standards of most films today.

The movie *might* be PG-13 - but since they are all Young...think about From Justin to Kelly. It was the American Idol movie and was supposed to be a tame version of Grease/Beach Blanket Bingo. Well, in the sense it's summer fun and romance. Since the American Idol series is TVG I doubt there's anything harsh in it.
That movie High School Musical has been getting a lot of buzz and it's being sold in the Disney Store. But I am not really familiar with it.
Yahoo movies has the "Movie Mom" who talks about appropriate sorts of movies. Maybe try her site... I spared you the trouble and have a DIRECT link for musicals she reviewed. Enjoy!

The Lion King, great songs & customed performances. A real feel-good family show (^_^)
a bit like Walt Disney, or better the original tale (plagirised by WD), ie Jungle Tayo (litterally the Jungle's Emperor -I think) by TOEI Animation Japan (AKA Toei Douga).

Into the Woods. If you can find it (There was like a PBS recording of it or something starring Bernadette Peters, it may be difficult to find). It is great, it is about all these different fairy tales, like red riding hood, jack and the beanstalk, cinderella. AND, it is a Sondheim musical, so it has to be good
Here's a synopsis:
