Yes, but don't stop them. The extreme-right wing idiocy is making the left look better! Congress control here we come!

No. Gays are attempting to deconstruct marriage as a part of an ongoing plot to make the country vulnerable to communism. That's the reason we need the amendment. If gays were actually interested in making marriage and family the norm for their sexuality, that would be a positive thing that conservatives of all types would fully support. The problem is that gays in this country aren't interested in that. What they ARE interested in is making marriage not mean anything any more.
This is a common sense issue. All gays would have to do to make gay marriage a reality in this country is to live that way as the rule instead of the exception. Find a nice, decent human being of the same sex, have a marriage ceremony and live together as a married couple. Behave as a monogamous married couple and maybe adopt kids. If that became the norm instead of the VERY rare exception, state recognition of gay marriage would quickly and easily follow.
The reason for the attempt to legislate gay marriage, when most gays have no interest in marriage as an institution shows the exact opposite of this. They are showing that gay union ISN'T in fact analogous to marriage. Since it isn't, it shouldn't have the same place in our society and there is no need for it anyway. So, why the attempt to ram it down everyone's throats? Because they want marriage to be more like their unions rather than to have their unions more like marriages. Not only is that not appropriate, but there is a sinister agenda behind it.

It is all political grandstanding.
Bush will never get it out of the senate or to the states. The amendment would not get the required 2/3 vote.
This Republic was 100 years old before the US could pass a Constitutional amendment (Woodrow Wilson) to give the right to vote to women!

No, I do not agree with you, what it is, is a diversion away from the failed politics of one George W. Bush. His criminal administration and his policy's has this country and the world in deep do do. This is one way to get the collective country's mind off of his lack of achievement. It is also an election year and the repuglicans are sinking fast. It is sort of a life line to throw to the base. Nobody cares if to gays get married. The percentage is so small that it is not worth while and I from what I hear he has little or no support in congress.

Bush and his Administration are trying to salvage what is left of their core supporters, in preparation for the mid-term elections. If it means eroding more civil rights, that's ok with them as long as it keeps the Republicans in power. I personally cannot see how gay marriage would erode the fabric of society! But it's a highly emotional topic and Bush needs all the support he can get right now. Even people who have supported him for years have given up and there's a lot of unhappiness with the Republicans in general. Too bad this is how they go about trying to get some support back.
