Which western country will be the first to have their own 21st century-style 'French Revolution'? I mean the kind of revolution that shakes the foundations of a country. And what would be a possible cause of this revolution?

:-)

Well if we read 1984, we discover that by having constant war, you can remove liberties from the population and still have them believe that it is good for them. Between Bush and Terrorism this has been achieved, (Its lucky that the families of Bush and Bin Laden don't have millions tied up with each other, oh I forgot they do!)
this means that the oppressed french people would have been seen as terrorists. Now based on current policy's in the west, if 'terrorists' take over a nation even in an election, the west will not recognise them. (Palestine)
This means that it is not going to happen in the west, The other nations would send in the UN to 'protect' the population from terrorism.
Luckily this is just the ravings of another loon?

good question, firstly let us say that the west is all of those countries that were part of that old anti-communist bloc plus those recently joined from former soviet groups.
currently the Euro-Zone is strong enough to prop up any failing state or crush any insurrection within it so they are out.
America can do the same even if a state wanted to secede the federal powers are strong enough to stop it. apart from a few very Small countries like Tonga and Fiji I believe that the nations most likely to undergo a major change on the scale of the French revolution are in Africa and in the Middle East.
Only a totally different philosophical system can produce such a revolution, the days of the Marxist revolution are over but maybe we will see an Islamic revolution that uses many of the same techniques. The problems that led to the Marxist revolutions have not yet been solved.

First of all S. America is certainly part of the Western Civilization. Latin America the whole hemisphere for that matter.

Now, the West in in a turmoil. It appears that as revolutions are known, although the USA looks like possibility, it just may happen once again very soon in France. The French have been having a clash of civilization for some time with the Islamic Civilization, and thus so far the Islamic has been gathering more and more steam and strength. The West, the French, are falling off in numbers and losing a footing that will erupt into all out war when they, realize that the scale has been tipped. (usually too late, as we are about to see in USA in next 10-15 years). But yes France or Britain. They have been fighting with the population of their "migrant workers Muslim from another civilization" for sometime now, and it will all catch fire, I think in 3-5 years.

Well, Afganistan would be a good contestant if we withdrew the UN troops, but that revolution wouldn't properly speaking be about human rights and democracy, if you know what I mean...
No, seriously, modern governments are I believe, very cautious and would do everythijg in their power to prevent anything approaching a 100th of the scale of the French revolution.
Since the 1960's the keyword is revolution begins at home.
First, you change things on a small local scale and then try to influence the rest. As Leonard Cohen put it, first, we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin.....

All the western countries are so messed up it is hard to say. All basically follow the McDonalds culture and multiculturalism at the moment where there own culture is being spit on or told "you never had a culture" so either of them could just have people getting sick of it and bringing back a more just environmentally friendly nation but only for a time, then corrupt opportunist will take over and mess it up like they always do

Not likely to happen. The French Revolution was the collapse of a civilization, the reign of terror, and the reintroduction of dictatorship. The Bolshevick Revolution was similar. The world order is such now that the US exports security for a rule set that is shared by everyone in the world economy. What is more likely to happen is the spreading of the rule set.

The USA is primed. The problem is apathy and the actual numbers population wise. In France during the Revolution the population was much, much smaller than in the US today. There is a great deal of inertia to overcome.

I have sensed a growing unrest in this country for 20 years and have felt for a long time we will experience a revolt of the populace. the question is will it be bloody or peaceful?

Individuals have less and less control over their own lives. they are overwhelmed, stressed and pissed.

in response to someone : USA is not exporting security and law and democracy and all that that seems taken from a primary school speech. USA is expanding tentacles to get global dominance and many countries don't agree with that and this is the analogy with the origins of the french revolution (i didn't say similar).Money is in the origin of many revolutions

Do former Eastern bloc states count? If so then Ukraine would be a good bet!

If not then I can't think of any 'western' country with crushing poverty, a parisitic aristocracy, failing system of 'monarchical' government, unsuccessful and expensive military expansionism and dissenting intellectuals calling for radical change.

Oh hang on......

The USA
