There is the Executive Branch, the Judiciary Branch and the Legislative Branch.

Executive:
This is like the President and such. You could draw the White House or something. Prez has the power to veto laws.

Judiciary:
Supreme Court and stuff. You could draw one of those hammer-thingys that judges always use. Gavels or something? Anyway, they interpret the laws from the Constitution.

Legislative:
Congress --> Senate + House of Reps. They make the laws.

The original design was called a checks and balances system. Each of the 3 branches performed their own functions with the idea that no one branch would become stronger than any other branch. You should draw it this way to illustrate the original design that no branch is more important than the next:

Judicial branch ( The courts systems, they read what the laws written on the books say and pass out the corresponding penalties etc.)

Legislative branch ( The house of Reps and the Senate; they invent the laws, make ammendments to existing laws. Basically the writers of the laws to protect the interest of us (We the people)

Executive Branch ( Starts with the commander in chief (The Prez) and works its way down through his administration even on down to the police) the enforcers of the laws; make sure people abide by the courts decisions, arrest people, etc. etc. They see to it that what is in the constitution and the laws of the land written by the legislature are adhered to.

Judicial: you might draw a gavel and the blindfolded weights and measures

Legislative: Maybe a building from D.C. / pen and paper

Executive: Oh, I don't know, how about Satan and his pitchfork

Good luck Girl!

They are supposed to be co-equal, so they should be on the same level. In terms of actual power, the executive has been much more powerful than the legislative or judicial since at least the 1930s.
The legislative is second most powerful, as they allocate all funding for programs the executive carries out.
The judicial is probably the least powerful, although they can nullify actions by either of the other branches.

The three branches are coequal and are the judicial, legislative and executive branches.

Scales represent the judicial branch (courts); money represent congress (legislative branch) and screwing people represents the executive branch.

How you depict them visually is up to you, but they are co-equal and so cannot be actually represented as a tree, more like a three legged stool.

In theory, the president proposes (laws, budgets, regulations, etc.), congress disposes (enacts budgets, laws, regulations, etc.) and courts ensure the laws are applied fairly and constitutionally.

well the branch w/the most power is the judicial branch. they interpret the law. so they can say any law is unconstitutional and no one can say otherwse. even if evry member of congress passes a bill, and the president signs it into law, the judicial branch can strike it down. think about it, that can be over 500 ppl agreeing on a law, and 5/9 ppl can say nope, sry. unconstitutional. since they're appointed for life, they dont have to please or answer to anyone. as for the other two branches, therye kinda equal. but i dunno. but for sure the judicial is at the top. even though it is seen as the weakest, its the strongest.

Executive branch = president signing bills with a feather pen
Legislative branch = dunno, a bunch of people in a meeting maybe?
Judicial branch = a judge holding a parchment (supposedly our Constitution) and shaking his finger at the other two branches, should be on top like he's looking down over everyone else
