If by goth you mean worshipper of the devil, then I would have to say the only people that would take offense are worshippers of God. I am a Christian, and I do not hate goths. In fact if I were given an opportunity I would show them love.
We're all human, we have no right to be hating anyone.

Goths are usually hated, simply because they are misunderstood. Keep in mind that not all people hate Goths. Many people are either taught or believe that something is bad or evil simply because of poor examples. One person dresses in Goth and does something bad, many people mistakenly assume that all Goth dressers do this. Often they are told that Goth dressers and/or culture is related to Satanism. There may be some Goths that are Satanists, but most of Goth culture is not actually related to religion. Instead, I have found that Goths typically believe in a form of self-expression, but expression with looking at life from an odd veiwpoint, untypical. Some Goth people like the clothing style, others like the morbidality of life ("i.e. Death is part of life."), and others are people that feel that society has l;eft them in a rut, which may or may not be true. But just keep in mind that you must first stay true to yourself, and then others will find you. Know thyself is a cardinal rule of many people around the world. If Goth is what you like, then I say screw everyone else.
Goth first began as an integral part of Archiecture, mnay churches and cathedrals in the past have adopted Goth styles in their building structures (like gargoyles) and has grown now to variety of sources. Goth culture bridges many gaps in what seems to be completely seperate areas of society today, mixing the morbidility of life, with the joy (or lack of joy) of simply being here. Goth has become more than a look at clothing even, though that part has become so integral to its survival. It is a way of life, through the means of self-disattachment, if you want to call it that, though Goths do socialize with outsiders, but they tend to be more cautious than many other people.
Basically you might as well have asked, why do people hate? The answer: Because they don't understand. I hate to put it that simply, but hey, its the truth. The people that hate Goths are either misinformed about Goth culure, or simply misunderstand.
Every one has a need for feeling unique. One company I worked for, called this a "Thinking Error." But once you look at it, everyone has that same need in some way. On the other hand, everyone has the need to feel loved, and to be loving. We must be unique in some ways, and "normal" in other ways to survive in our world. This seek of balance in all societies has never changed. And anytime that there is someone quite different than the rest of the poulation involved, there has always been a form of growing opposition.
I hope this answer is good enough. :)

Not everybody hates goths. I think the reason why some people do hate goths is because you know, they're all depressing and trying to be all bad. You know what I mean? I guess people find them uneducated. That's my opinion. =)

Becasue they try TOOO hard to seek attention by looking freakish. I hate people who try to get attention by being over the tops. A goth thinks they are soo different but in reality they are just like everyone else in a subculture and not at all different than all the other gazillion goths out there.

People in general don't hate goths, or for that matter don't even know what they represent, Do you know? Or is it just a fashion statement? Some want to bring out that reaction. Gives them something to complain about.

I don't hate them. I just think they are stupid. Because I was a little punk rock kid and goth people annoyed me. Besides, Goth music sucks. It sounds like Evil Butt Phuking music. That's what I've always called Goth music. I do love Gothic architecture though.

I don't hate them, and I certainly wouldn't dress up Goth even on Halloween, but some horrible stories that have been related to the culture leaves me reluctant to accept it as a harmless way of life.

I dont. I look at personality. Some people hate goths because they kinda sorta appear scary. Like vampires in scary movies. I mean once, i saw this person with really white make-up(like michael jackson) ,pitch dark n long black hair. This big cape and extra eyeliner and black lipstick. Sorta freaked me out. I do have friends who are goths though. I have no problem with them.
