I'm curious, I've been told before that a woman bleeds for about a month after she gives birth. Is this true? If it isn't true then what is the truth?

it depends on the woman. if the woman had light periods before hand, she wont bleed more then 14 days, if she was a heavy bleeder she can bleed up to 3 months on and off.

A normal woman will bleed for up to 6 weeks- but that doesn't mean every woman will for the whole 6 weeks, and after the first couple, you aren't really bleeding very much. You will probebly have discharge coming out still, with a little blood that makes it pink or red in color.

I have given birth to 4 children and with each one, the bleeding lasted between 4 and 6 weeks. The flow can be heavy at first, but slows down quite a bit by the end. The color also changes from bright red to brown.

It's normal to bleed for 6 weeks. I had a difficult birth and had some light bleeding for 8 weeks.

I bled lightly for about 2 months. I think after the first 7 weeks I started my first post-partum period...Everything was really light, though. Surprisingly. If you're having really heavy bleeding (soaking 1 pad every hour for 4 hours in a row or more) you should make an appt. with your dr.

Usually, about 3 weeks, and even after that, there's still other stuff coming out. By one month to 6 weeks, you should be done with the messiness.

I bled about 2 weeks with both of mine. After you have a baby you'll go for a checkup 2 weeks after....if you are still bleeding then, talk to your doctor.

I am SO glad you asked this question! I am 11 weeks postpartum and STILL bleeding.

(Actually, I had a "reverse period," where after 28 days, I STOPPED bleeding for 5 days.)
