well piercing are pretty simple. No really permanent effects. Almost all piercings close withing different time frames. The quickest is the tongue which closes within a day. They are not very painful... feel like a pinch and that's it. Even the most dramatic, the penis, does not hurt becuase they numb it.
Tattoos on the other hand may have some effects on you later on in life. For instance the reason y the do not allow young people to get tattoos becuase they 'move'. With the growth of the body tattoos tend to shift and stretch. So if you are thinking about it try to maintain your size. Varying sizes, getting fat and skinny, can alter the tattoo.
At the end of it all you can always get laser removal but it is expensive.
No matter what is your decision.... GO TO A PROFESSIONAL. You can endanger your life if you do not get a profesional to do them for you. Both tattoos and piercings

This is what I have to say about tattoos. Honey, you can get Hepatitis C from it. It is the most rampant cause of cirrhosis of the liver. There is a treatment for Hepatitis C, but only 50% of those infected will respond to given treatment; the rest get liver disease and die. I also just got my blood drawn yesterday to see if I have Hepatitis C. You see we just found out 4 days ago that my husband has it and that I could also have it because I have slept with him. It's no small matter. I'm sitting here scared wondering what the results will be. I hope my test results come back negative. Please pray for me. I also hope for your sake that you choose not to get the tattoo; it's just not worth it. :(
Additional Note: A lot of people say it's fine if you get it done at a sanitary professional place. What they don't tell you is it doesn't matter how sanitary it is because part of the ink that is used goes back into the ink vials. To show you what I mean...imagine drinking out of a straw. Part of the liquid in the straw goes back into the glass when you are finished. It may be a very small amount; however, it is the same concept with the clean needles and ink vials when people get tattoos. Once you get Hepatitis C you have to get interferon shots 3 times a week for 6-18 months and there is no guarantee that it will work or that you won't relapse. I sure hope my test comes back negative. I will just hate it if it doesn't, and it's so sad that my husband has this. We have an appointment set up with his doctor in a couple weeks to go over his treatment plan. I think people that get tattoos are crazy!!!!

first of all do your research on the artist that would be doing your tattoo. Take a day and go to different shops and ask to see a book of their work. anyone who is not willing to show you their work run from them as fast as possible. Also make sure that the shop that you choose practices very good sterilization. This is key the last thing you want is to have an infection in your belly button or anywhere for that matter due to a tat or piercing.
Check with your better business bureau to see if there have been any complaints about the shop of your choice.
Last make sure you follow every direction that the artist or piercer gives you. they don't give you these instructions just to give them to you. Most infections and mess ups are due to the person that got the tat or piercing not taking care of the area after the work is done.
good luck

A specialist is the best way to go and check and ask they everything is sterizied and new needles use for tattooing and they squeeze the skin in the belly button area before the piercing is done so it doesn't hurt as much Go ahead and get it done do it for yourself and why are you worring about what everyone else think you have to live with not them and if they don't like oh welll tell to go and experience something different for them selves

Ok just make sure you pierce it properly cuz I didn't and now I have a scar that won't go away.Don't get a tattoo, because imagine you in your 70's with saggy skin and a tattoo,I mean you would look "different" and not the good kind of different. At least you can actually remove the piercing and put it back on when you want.Or instead do something like skydiving.

don't listen to your "friends" if they're really your friends, they'll think whatever makes you happy is cool. if you live your life not doing things because of what other people say and think, you'll die unhappy.
as for the tattoos and piercings, make sure to do your research so you know how to take care of your new modification. a great place to do this is www.bmezine.com
go to a few tattoo parlors around town and look at how clean they are..if you feel like you're at the doctor's office, that's probably a good sign...if the floor is dirty, and there aren't private piercing/tattoo rooms, GET OUT.

I perfectly understand what you mean. I got my belly button pierced when I was 13 (I'm now 14) and the same thought was going through my head, I wanted to experience as much as I can while I'm young. Don't think about the other people and how they don't think it's necessary because it's your dream and what you want to do. Other people can't and shouldn't be the ones deciding what your dream is, live your dream and experience it all for yourself not them.

Go to a clean tattoo parlor in your area. The people there will be professionals. Remember though, people are doing it and they can make mistakes. Also, with any piercing, once you take it out, there will be a scar. So make sure you don't mind the scar, or get something people can't see. I would suggest the same for a tattoo, but that is totally up to you.

i always said that there was no way id ever get a tattoo. So when i hit 40 years old that is the time life begins and i decided to get 2 tattoos. Fortunately i live in a seaside town in the UK. There has to be plenty of tattoo places with rules about it, Where do you live.? How old are you, you talk like your as old as me yet you question sounds younger. Somewhere thats busy or where a friends been to before is probably best. Your"ll live and I dont think youll be infected like others seem to make out. Just remember its a teensy weensy bit painful. And dont get any tattoos with names on them. Most of us only manage one This Is It relationship in our tme.

ALWAYS get your piercing done by a professional in a professional setting!! As for tattoos, I got my first one when I was 14. It is now looking kind of blurry, and the color has faded too. I am now 28 and have more tattoos. I have had piercings as well. Nipples, tongue. I don't have either of them anymore... I had a kid and the tongue one ruined my bottom gum line and I have to get a skin graph to cover the bone. Those teeth are hyper sensitive!
