Is it possible to play media(video) from an external hard drive without using a computer?

I just bought a external hard drive to back up my DVD collection but I want to be able to watch them on a TV. But I don't want to move the computer or use a laptop. I appreciate any information you have Thanks!

You Cannot watch those unless the hard drive is conneted to your computer!!

Get long video and audio cords from the computer to the Television.
