Founded by English settlers in 1870, Leucadia was named after one of the Greek isles. Leucadia means "Isle of Paradise" or "Place of Shelter." Many of the street names, such as Hygeia, Jupiter, Vulcan, and Plato were inspired by Greek mythology.
