1 : an outbreak of epidemic disease
2 : an outbreak or product of sudden rapid spread, growth, or development; specifically : a natural population suddenly and greatly enlarged
doesn't outbreak mean something that cannot be controlled? can't people control the spread of AIDS by not haveing indiscriminate sex? i know there are some cases of people getting AIDS by tranfusion and many babies get born with it. But itsn't it just a result of stupid choices? If I buy meat and don't refrigerate it then decide to eat it uncooked, isn't there a chance I could die from that. People choose not do make that stupid choice. Why do people continue to make the choice of getting AIDS. Wasn't the Black Plague spread mainly by lack of proper hygene or making good choices. That was an epidemic because people didn't know how to stop it, when they did, the Black Plague ended. Why don't people make the same smart choice for AIDS. Let it die naturally with the last person infected, it's a cure.

Why do we spend millions on AIDS when we could spend it on other things rather than trying to fix a problem that people keep perpetuating, its not cancer. People can't control getting infected with cancer.

I do have friends with AIDS...they don't like it. But they know their time is coming and they don't want other people to go threw the same thing they had to. If they could do it over again, they said they would have made better choices about sex. My mother is an RN.

I understand what you're saying for sure. It' really frustrating to know how the disease started in the first place, and is being spread. Alot of choices are being made, that unfortunately, are affecting alot of people. You left one out, the ones who know they have aids and sleep with as many people as they can to spread it. It's a real frustrating thing that's for certain!
You made a good point when you were writing about people getting it and not knowing it. And babies being born and it's not their fault. It is a real devastating outbreak, and it is a full blown monster. Millions have it in Africa, and it is spreading like wildfire everywhere, and no we don't get excited about helping the ones who spread it knowingly. I guess it all comes down to loving the sinner, but hating the sin. Jesus died for these people too, and we were once in sin too. Jesus says those that judge have forgotten where they came from. We are called to love the sinner but hate the sin, it's as simple as that, and pray for these people, as Jesus is the Healer as well.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with this, but I sure do understand, been there myself. When I find myself getting really irritated about the things that are going on, I just go to prayer, and give it to the Father. He dosen't want you to be upset all the time, or angry about these issues. Pray and "cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you". "Do not worry" Jesus says. Go to Him and talk with Him about it, and He will show you a different perspective. His perspective. His is usually different than ours!

You are incredibly ignorant. Epidemic means a fast spreading disease. I am a Registered Nurse and work with those afflicted with HIV and AIDS. Many diseases are caused by bad choices; heart disease, lung cancer, diabetes, etc. The black plague was caused by fleas on rats. People in those times knew nothing about disease transmission. I don't care what "bad choices" a person has made, no one, NO ONE deserves to suffer the way patients with AIDS do. And furthermore, this disease afflicts more than just junkies and whores. You need to really get educated- I would be willing to bet you will at some point know someone with this disease. Maybe then you will change your tune.

Point well taken. The only thing I will say that we should be funding research to help those like the babies and the infusion people who weren't stupid just really unlucky. One other point is that in Africa especially, woman have no rights. Their married off at a young age and forced to have sex with their husbands. Which of course means that if their husband is infected they are going to be to. But I will agree that in America where the woman HAVE choices there is no excuse for getting this preventable disease.

While your question is a bit misguided, and AIDS is a huge problem in the devolping world, Your right in saying that AIDS isn't an epidemic or a pandemic.
But I also agree with your assertion that Aids is caused by indiscrimate sex, if we could just get a new set of morals and quit having unprotected sex that is ungodly, AIDS would be severly reduced within 20 years.

People are not very good at controlling their sexuality or their addictions.
People will pass it on because they will never get checked, or because they don't care about others, it is not going away.
People get cancer through choices too:
Smoking
Eating poorly
Living in cities
Working around carcinogens
Perhaps we should abandon all of them too!
The real question you're asking is; Why doesn't everyone agree with my moral judgement in blaming the victims of AIDS for activity which I find repugnant?
Answer:
Because you are so immature, unrealistic and compassionless!
P.S., You should've looked up outbreak before blathering:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outbreak
It has nothing to do with preventability.

The wrong priorities.Spend funds where they will do the MOST good. Aids can be prevented with the proper information being made available. If people won't follow the rules. What can we do. Look at smoking and the information to get people to quit smoking. I quit...... so it works.

Why don't you call it an epidemic? An epidemic is something that spreads, doesn't even have to be a disease. Could be a fashion like a certain kind of shoes.

people are stupid and controlled by their own lust. I agree with you, but i still believe we need to be able to treat those who contract it. It is crazy that is it completely preventable, but just keeps spreading. mainly spreading because of people not being tested, not telling their partners, and for 3rd world people being completely uneducated of how it is spread and that there is no cure.

It's stupidity that has reached epademic perportions. Dude, it's killing people! The stupid choice is unprotected sex, and even a condom can break ... it's not just about getting pregnant, it's about getting sick and dying ... and possibly killing someone else.
