Hello there,
sometimes I use my dad's computer that his work provided for him because it handles the internet far faster than my piece of junk. My dad works in IT and programming. Anyway, sometimes I visit sites that use very graphic advertisements (penis enhancements, porn, you name it). If I visit one of these sites with my dad's computer, could my dad get in real trouble or would they just look at him funny? Can simply clearing the history/cache/temp files prevent any trouble? o_O

There are Internet cops-real police who check out all porn sites esp looking for child porn and keep in min that child is up to age e 18-if you go into a site even if you leave quickly its on your dad's hard drive which you can't delete not even with Delete Programs
technics. Reason I mentioned up to age 18 for child porn is you can't tell age and if it catches the attn of police your Dad can get into real trouble and that its you won't excuse him legally for its his computer and his responsibility to see you don't stray into porn. You are also using a work computer and are putting your Dad at risk for getting into serious trouble and even fired for this computer is for his use only. I think you need to be a bit grown up here and talk to your dad and confess to what you've been up to . Suppose for some reason company gives him newer computer and someone else gets this one and a porn site pops up. If your dad does programming he must be computer smart and you should let him handle this and stop using his computer esp for porn-what if he got fired? you are putting your whole family at risk.

the company I work for DOES monitor what websites their computers go to. I have personally seen people walked out the front door permantly for just this thing. Talk to your dad. Apologize for doing it, and accept whatever happens. Since dad is in IT, he will know how to take care of cleaning up the mess. I understand the need for porn, but come on, do it on your own pc if you MUST, not on one others can use. Just by visiting a website, you can start getting spam, and that is what will get you caught. Seen it happen.

A lot of businesses frown on things like this!!

I know of one business, that actually has a lot of computers and has a program that captures what ever is on the screen at the time, so that they may see what thier employees are up to. Now, if your dad, does a search of his "history files" and sees stuff like that, and they 'happen' to see whats on the screen, your dad maybe in for a lot of trouble, and even fired from work!!

I WOULD NOT use your dads computer for your 'searches' into those sites, in case some one gets ahold of his computer, (like he needs it serviced and they look to see where he has been), then YOU would be responsible for your dad either getting fired or in serious trouble!!

Let your dad know what you have been doing and what is going on, before "they do"...

I wish you well..

Jesse

Yes, your dad could get in trouble. A lot of companies track computer usage now and can find out easily where that computer has been online. It's never a good idea to go to questionable websites on a work computer.

Don't visit those sites - Your Dad will get real trouble. Clearing the cache memory will not erase it from your computer. It is trackable all the time.
You have been warned!

You might want to know that when you visit ANY web site..your IP address is sent to them. In doing so that computer will now be subject to more spam and junk mail. Of course a good firewall software will help that.

This could definitely get your Dad in trouble, and depending on his company, fired. Show him some respect and use his work system for its intended purpose. If he loses his job all of your "stuff" goes with it. Grow up.

He could lose his job if the company wanted to press matters.

Simply clearing out the history will not remove everything. You could buy something from Norton to remove all traces, but you probably couldn't afford it if you're only a teen.

You will get your dad into real trouble.

But if you have to do it, try to create another account for yourself that can not install anything. This way, adware ans spyware will not come to your computer so easily and if it comes, it will be separated from your dad's regular log in.

But my advice is, do use your dad's computer if you care about him.

if is truly computer related you should use your dads computer as a proxy server and surf the net on your computer using his connection.

you need to enable internet connection sharing. this way you will prevent your dad from being fired!
