It epends upon what he likes and what he already has. I'd choose something that will keep him active but also thinking. I lean towards books and bicycles.

Maybe a small MP3 player, something that he can manage himself. You can find realatively low-priced ones on all sorts of sites like http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat10200050001&type=category or http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/category.do?catOid=-12952&N=20012898+20012952&c=1. They have pretty good prices and I got my MP3 player from Best Buy but you may want to save something like that for a bigger occasion because some smller things might do the trick in this case. Or you can simply bring him to your local science shop (a Discovery Store operated in co-existance with the Discovery Channel would be a great place to bring him to pick out something himself) where you know he'll like the gift since he picked it out himself.

I would ask back, what is he in to? What are his favorite things to do? I would incorporate a gift for his graduation according to the things he LIKES to do.
Another option is a day out with Dad. As parents, we try our best to parent, but you can give your son a day out with dad. Ask him what he would like to do, and then do it. Treat him to something he has chosen. What a wonderful way to get some quality time with you. Good luck, and congrats to your son!! :)

Well, it depends on what he likes. If he is into video games, get him a new game or game system (if you have the money). If he likes to play outside and doesn't have one yet, maybe a new BIKE:)! My son is 13, it gets harder to get him gifts as he grows up, now he likes getting gift cards to different places. Sometimes he likes to get a DVD or a new CD...Good luck, and congratulations to your son!

How about opening a bank account for him, and give him $50 towards his first deposit. He'll learn the importance of saving, and might even be rich by the time he turns 16

He is at the right age now for showing interest in, or learning, to build his own models.
Heaps of different model kits around these days: planes, boats, cars, robots, little electronic devices (like spygear), etc., etc. It's also fun for you at the same time!

Something semi-grown-up; his own crescent wrench and set of screwdrivers, perhaps, and a toolbox to keep them in.
