Ironic in the way that oil prices have been increasing due to hurricanes last year.

So with the oil prices going through the roof as a result of hurricanes.......the Oilers are going to win the Stanley cup. Carolina will be picking up the pieces? Let Carolina have their 'Canes....Edmonton has the oil and Lord Stanley!!!!!!!

You are right, truly ironic!! I hope the Hurricanes will over the Oilers in hockey though.

How would it be ironic? These two teams have had pretty much nothing to do with each other until now, and certainly nothing has happened to make irony out of. I'd say it's unexpected yes but not ironic, not in the least.
