Obviously the GOP is not the poor man's party. And it clearly caters to the super rich. So how does it get so many people to vote for it? (I was tempted to say half the country, but I realized it wasn't half the country, merely half of the people that cast their votes.)

Take the working poor for example. Say you work at Wal-Mart, or even for local factory. Your boss is a business owner. He's looking for ways to pay you less money, cut your benefits, cut back on work safety laws (they keep you from being injured, but cost him money) and ways to end overtime pay. The republican party is the party that's going to help him get these laws passed, while the Democrats are trying to pass laws to protect your wages, benefits, etc. So what does he do come election time? He starts telling his workers that if the Democrats get elected, that there is no way he can stay in business without big layoffs. Even though he's been in business for 70 years, with many Democratic Presidents running the show. Now these working poor are sacred to death of loosing their lively hood, so with the threat of financial ruin, they vote for the republicans. So basically, the republicans use lies & false threats to get elected, the same system they use to start wars.

Shouldn't the question be "What is the strategy used by the rich DEMOCRATS to make the poor people vote for them?"
Democrats traditionally get blacks, women, and poor as their voting blocks ... and now democrats are trying to add ex-felons and illegal immigrants to that list.
Everyone always accuses the Republicans of being rich and greedy. But the truth is there are more millionaires that run as democrats than do as republicans. Funny how no one ever points that out.
Anyway, honestly I would say that democrats have not made and real progress for the poor. This group has blindly voted for democrats since the Great Depression. The only thing that has changed in the last 40 years is that welfare industry has grown, but poor people have remained in their same situation. They are finally seeing that democrats are not helping, so Republicans are offering a platform of opportunity instead of handouts. I think that accounts for alot of the Republicans' ability to reach the poor.

The let the people with brains look at reality and see that the Democrats (who allegedly help the poor) use power to grow government and take from those who earn a good living to waste on pork barrel programs. Those with brains can see that the poor are exploited more by the Democrats than republicans. Pushing the immigration issue by the dummycrats is not for the good of the people but to get more illiterates that they can con into voting for them.

They target the stupid and they're good at it..
If you watched the news before the election you would constantly see Republican after Republican after Republican saying the exact same thing over and over. If stupid people keep hearing the same thing they will eventually believe it. Look at all the people who believe John Kerry was a "flip-flop traitor who wants to raise their taxes". None of that is true but they will still use it in their talking points to this day...

Well, I'm not sure what the Republicans will do, but the Dems cater to them and apparently most of them either don't vote or can't figure out how to use those dang-flan-abit punch cards.

diabolizing other people. First they go anti gay, then anti mexican, then anti liberal. They make it sound like everybody else is wrong and that they are the ones who will stand up to them. They prey upon ethnocentrism and racism. Republicans are evil or ignorant and believing in evil ideas. The republicans own and operate most of the media, so as long as they tell lies and keep most people ignorant, they can keep it up. We have to let people know that they
are evil and that its just propaganda and that the elections are rigged
and so forth. We have to stand up to the evil that is republicanism.

Letting Democrats be themselves, it is the republican secret weapon. There are more rich folks in the Democrat party. George Suros and Hollywood arn't welfare recipients.

the libs have been helping the poor for a long time and we still have a lot of poor people they should what the people on the right think WORK and be RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SELF and leach off of the government
