but my doctor (who is female) is wanting to rufuse treatment unless i go see obgyn, I feel i have every right to continue the shot if i choose to do so. I have researched the risks, but in my case there are some advantages as well. does my doctor have the right to refuse continuing treatment? I have been on for 3 years. I would also like professional opinions please.

I believe that in order to be on birth control...you have to have a complete pelvic/breast exam. And because it is birth control, you should be seeing an OB/GYN. I'm guessing you are using a primary care physician or general prac...
They do and don't have a right to refuse treatment. They do have the right because this is not an area of expertise for the particular physician in your situation. Thats why she wants you to see the OB/GYN. Follow her advice.

I have been on Depo for about 8 years now. I get a Pap every year and make sure everything is still ok. Just last week I actually had a Bone Density test to make sure my bones were ok because it causes Density problems. You should get a Pap ever years especially if you are having "relations". It only takes about 5 minutes at the most and well its unconfortable but hey its for your heath. I think they can tell you-you can't get the shot but I am not all that sure.

Why isn't your obgyn the one giving you the shot? I didn't realize docs other than them could administer it. Go see an obgyn...what's the big deal? And yes, she can refuse to continue it if she feels it's in your best interest.

your doctor doesn't have the refuse treatment, but she does have the right to "threaten"to refuse you so you will go to the ob. which you should do every year, not only for your own women's health, but for sexual health as well.
it's not to upset you or make you mad, it's to make sure your doing fine, so no problems will come forth
