I guess first look at your daughters interest, lets say she likes dolls, then look for not a very fancy toy she would keep asking for more expensive toys, do not ask another person an opinion, ask directly your daughter

Most 4 year old girls like dolls and tea sets. Is she the creative type? Try some washable markers. Crayola has sets that come with a plastic mat that you can color on.

What is she into? Has she started preschool yet? Leap Frog can be entertaining & learning all in one...also, if you can afford it, something like a tricycle or even a motorized car. Keeps her entertained & she can exercise too!
