Yes, I was a vegetarian for years. Why I stopped is a long story. It had nothing to do with the diet, it was where I was living at the time and the restricted access to vegetables I had. Anyways, protein comes from many more sources than just beans. Good sources of protein for vegetarians include nuts and seeds, pulses, soya products (tofu, soya milk and textured soya protein such as soya mince), cereals (wheat, oats, and rice), free-range eggs and some dairy products (milk, cheese and yoghurt). I don't know what grocery store is popular in your area, but Safeway has an awesome variety of vegetarian foods that taste really good.

Um, you are aware that you've classified this question under the heading "Love & Romance," aren't you? Just checking...
In part because I am surrounded by vegetarians (all but one of my siblings and a large percentage of my friends are vegs), I actually attempted to become one back in my college days. It lasted about nine months and ended with my immune system reduced to the point where a bout with the flu resulted in two months' worth of bronchitis (I can't take antibiotics). No thanks.
I should explain that I did it on the grounds of animal welfare, not a penchant for vegetables. This is critical, methinks. Because if all you're doing is omitting meat from your diet, while not carefully substituting for the lost protein and iron in the fruits and vegetables you eat, you're going to make yourself sick.
I agree with some of the other comments here about the deathly sick pallour of many vegans I know, as well. You're right on about the use of beans as the primary protein source, also, though many use tofu (bean curd) to achieve that purpose.
Honestly, I do NOT love veggies nearly enough to sustain a vegetarian diet. And yes, I did miss the assorted junk food which involves meat products, too. I think Thanksgiving was the hardest sacrifice of all, because I do love a good turkey dinner. Nay, I shall remain an omnivore for life.

I have been a veggie for over 10 years now and I have never had any i'll effects from it. I even havent had any vitamin shots, any problems with the mineral levels in my body and I dont take vitamin suppliments. Im not stick thin, pretty average really and I dont really watch too much in terms of what I eat. I know whats got lots of protien in it (and its not all beans), carb and fat and I just by the food that I enjoy eating I get a balanced diet. Is it healthier, I wouldnt say so,like everything else moderation is the key.

No, I wouldn't. All the vegetarians I know are constantly tired, depressed and anaemic.
Some cook for themselves; some whine and rage at someone else to prepare their food for way longer than it takes to cook a meal. I can see they are not thinking straight, but I do not admire their rudeness, dramatics and self-obsession. I believe it's a form of eating disorder to keep their mind off their other issues. I know one woman who insists that her kitten is also a vegetarian. This is extremely cruel, BTW - dogs can cope, on a careful diet, cats can't, ask any vet. She doesn't have any problem with beetles or mice of course - but, sure, her cat is really a vegetarian, LOL!
Anyway, here's a link that explains it better:

vegetarianism is only more healthful if you make it that way - you can be a vegan and eat all the junk food you like...
and NO protein is not surley harder to come by - do yourself a favor and look up the protein contents for beans and tofu...
and also, as far as taste - if you really can't live life happily without a big mac, then don't be a vegetarian...but remember, you only like the things you already like because you have LEARNED to like them since you were a kid - TASTES, like everything else, CAN CHANGE...

VEGETARIANISM ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! It is so much more healthier. But will all diets you need to have it balanced. It can be tricky getting all your vitamins and what not. There is plenty of protein in SOY!! And soy comes in all kinds of delicious forms from Fake Meat tasting things to drinks. Oh and KFC is disgusting!!!

Meat is part of a balanced diet, so unless you can get meat from plants etc. then vegetarian is bad, unless of course you're allergic to meat and then, well you just have to have tablets for what you miss out on.

yes you can become a vegetarian out of no where, if one day you just want to stop eating meat all together, thats fine.
my best friend did that too, she ate meat til 4 years ago, about, when she say this video about animals, and she just slowly quit eating meat. she doesn't force anyone else to do the same though. so thats important, if others around you still eat meat just let them, its their choice, just like it is for you to stop eating meat.
she does eat cheese and milk though.
