How early can you get/ be diagnosed with preeclampsia? I am probably just being paranoid. But I am only 12 weeks pregnant and I have had a headache for two days (have taken Tylenol but hasn't helped), dizziness when I stand up, nausea (when there was none before), and some pain in chest on right side. I DON'T have any swelling in face or feet so that is why I am not rushing off to the doctor. My blood pressure was up last dr. visit and they just told me to lay off the salt. What do you think? "First time mom paranoia"?

By definition, you cannot have preeclampsia until after your 20th week. (I had preeclampsia twice.)

Also, a single elevated blood pressure reading doesn't mean very much. Maybe you had a crazy drive over to the doctor's office. Maybe you walked a little faster down the hall to the office than you usually do. Maybe you ate something salty, or took some cold medicine, or were worried about something at home or at work. Blood pressure naturally varies throughout the day, too. If your doctor is at all concerned about your numbers, he/she will ask you to monitor your pressure at home under controlled conditions so he/she can rule out some of those variables.

For what it's worth, I don't know anyone who's had preeclampsia who didn't also have a whopping case of edema. The nurses at my hospital called me "marshmallow fluff"; you could make huge indentations in my legs that just stayed and stayed. It was gross.

Anyway, for more information about preeclampsia, plus a really good moderated chat board and support group, surf over to www.preeclampsia.org. I don't know how I would have gotten through my two pregnancies without the folks over there.

Good luck. Preeclampsia is a MAJOR bummer; here's hoping you just have first-time-mom jitters.

well dizziness does come from standing up. so when u do stand up, do it slowly, nausea is common with pregnancy i get it still i am 17 weeks pregnant and i feel sickright now. the pain in ur chest could be indigestion( sorry can't spell) but preeclampsia is quite serious and signs can be detected early but i don't think u can be diagnosed for w hile i'm not really sure, tell ur doctor ur worried and he may run some tests. remember pregnancy is quite unpredictable in some cases and everyone is different.

Probably "first time mom paranoia". I dont think you have preeclampsia.

Headaches, dizziness/lightheadedness, and nausea can all be normal symptoms of pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about these symptoms, but there is no need to go rushing off to the hopsital yet.

Good Luck.
