I interviewed with a place this morning. It went well and i was asked back for a second interview this afternoon. On the way to the 2nd interview, there was an accident holding up traffic. I thought i knew a short cut but got lost... i was a few minutes late, less than 10 minutes.
I arrived ready to explain what happened, but the manager (whom i had not met before) came over and was very condescending, asking, "When were you supposed to be here?" then acting as if she didn't believe my excuse. She then asked if i would come in on Thursday instead, saying, "At 2:30? Are you sure you can be here on time?" again in a really condescending tone.
I know it's important to not be late to an interview, but i had a plausible reason. I didn't call because i didn't have my cell and finding a phone would've taken longer... it was all a big mess, but i found her behavior to be unprofessional. Should i take this as a sign that i shouldn't work there? Or just get over it and try again Thursday?

Don't go to the interview. I mean, do you really want a job with someone like her? You sound like you could get a better job elsewhere.

Depending on how old you are, and what type of job this is depends on what you should do. One thing that you have learnt is that the manager will cut no one slack. This could be either good or bad depending on personality. If this is going to be a part-time job where you could wait until you found another place than the best thing would be to find another business to work at. If this is going to be the job that will pay for your house and living expenses than I would go back on Thursday showing up a little bit early and try to nail the interview. Once I got hired though, I would polish up my resume and start to look for another job after a couple of months.

Others may have differerent opinions, but - based on a lifetime of experience - I would avoid that place like the plague. Yeah...as if that manager has led a perfect life and nothing has ever happened to her? I know a great car salesman who had been with his company for over 30 highly successful years, and was fired when he went to the hospital to see his daughter who had just been fatally injured in a car wreck. Heartless employers and/or managers never change. Look somewhere else. Also, spread the word about this company to your friends, and let them know how things are.

Try again on Thursday just to show that you are reliable and are taking getting the position seriously but also try to watch how she treats you on Thursday. If she still seems condescending, then take it as a sign that you probably don't want to work there.
Good Luck!

the hell with the manager. sometimes they can be a pain in the *** as if you needed more badluck.
anyway, i'd say you come back on thursday and make sure to be early anticipate traffic and give yourself a leadtime. it's still better to be one hour early than 5 minutes late. show the manager that despite of the past incident you can be "the one" for the job. GOOD LUCK!

Well, I would say you loose nothing giving it another chance on Thursday, anyway you will be just in time to say you are not interested if you still feel the hostile behavior; on the other hand it might be a good job after all.

I think you are right to wonder if you should work at this place. Especially, if you are going to be working for this person -- she does not sound like a reasonable person to whom you can talk. If this person is someone you will not have much contact with, try to get a feel for the people you will be working with. Good luck!

You've been through enough with them. MOVE ON. Be lucky that you DON'T work with them.
You might try getting to an interview 15 minutes early. Then anything goes, and you will make it on time.

If this person is going to be your new boss, ask yourself if you want to work for somebody like that. Maybe this person was just having a bad day as well, who knows.
I do not know you, your life or what kind of job it is, but personally I would consider letting go and look for another job. Their loss!

Go again on Thursday and be early and see if she notices that. They usually don't but give it a try anyway. Don't give up because of a bad situation.
