You can get a degree in whatever field you want. It is much harder to get a job with a felony record. I have been out of prison for 18 months and have only had one job for a short time. The only reason I got the job is because I did not answer the felony question and no one noticed. It is difficult to get a job as a felon. By the way, you cannot get records expunged in Arizona. You need to check about this in whatever state your crime was.

Start school, and if the felony is keeping you from taking your bar exam, then yes, speak with a lawyer about getting this removed. Otherwise, this 'flaw' in your record could be good for you believe it or not. When a prospective employer asks you about it,(not sure if they legally can) don't lie, just let them know you made a mistake and that your past that, and tell them how you tackled that problem to not commit again. This shows your innovation at solutions in your own life. Good skill.

If the incident involves a felony, a serious misdemeanor, or any crime involving dishonesty (such as forgery or fraud), or if your record contains more than one or two charges/convictions, you should come speak to the Pre-Law Advisor before crafting your explanation of your record. These types of incidents could seriously affect your ability to gain admission to law school and to become a lawyer. Do not consider leaving these off your applications or in any other way misrepresenting your criminal record. While a serious criminal record may prevent you from practicing law, lying about your criminal record will prevent you from ever becoming an attorney.

The more education u get the better. Its all about how marketable u are. The felony is a big strike against u but it can definitely be overcome with enough education/experience. It will show people you are not some crazy criminal u just made a mistake but now u have a stable base and were able to complete ur education. good luck.

Be honest about your past, what you've done about it, and how you plan to succeed in the future.

Honesty truly is the best policy.
