I am seriously considering gastric surgery because I am twice my normal size now because of a thyroid problem that has since been taken care of. I am very concerned with the risks, but also would like to know about the process and what to expect from those who have gone through it. Please tell me what you know about this, ok? and PLEASE I don't want uninformed or ridiculous answers here.. this is very serious and I am quite afraid about this. Thank you in advance for your considerations and help.

Just an additional note: I didn't consider this myself, it was strongly suggested by my physician. I resisted even a consultation at first, but now have agreed to a consultation with the surgeon. I do understand all the ramifications, ie. diet and exercise, etc. I am also curious about what was involved in the surgery process.. preparation procedures and recovery process, for instance.

my mother and sister have both had gastric bypass surgery. in the surgery the dr will remove part (most) of your stomach - so that there is enough left to hold a couple ounces. they also cut the small intestine then attach it to the new stomach pouch. alot of drs are doing the surgery laproscopically so that you don't have to be cut all the way open. this just involves a couple very small incisions. after the surgery, for the first few weeks, they want you to eat just a little bit - we're talking like an ounce of jello - things like that. then you can proceed on to pureed foods - then finally to "normal" foods again. you just can't eat as much as you did prior to the surgery. they also recommend that you eat several small meals a day rather than a couple large meals. i know with my sister - she found that she couldn't drink very much with her meals because the fluids filled her up so much - so you might have to drink in between meals. but you need to keep your body nourished well - since the stomach is so much smaller - the food doesn't stay in your body as long - and doesn't have as much time to absorb all the nutrients the body needs. drs recommend taking vitamins after the surgery to help with this. if your really considering this - make an appointment with your family physician. once he agrees that this is a good choice for you - he will give you a referral to a surgeon. once you visit with the surgeon and discuss the surgery with them, they most likely will have you go for a psych test(don't worry - this is pretty standard) - they just want to check your emotional state, and make sure that you want the surgery for the right reasons. If you are really serious about losing the weight, this could be a great option - but you have to be completely devoted to the new lifestyle. i wish you all the best and good luck with your decision.

sure, you may get all of those folds in case you lose an extremely great volume of weight very rapidly, in spite of if it is obviously or by gastric bypass. an excellent style of it has to do including your age and epidermis style. in case you're youthful and characteristic extra elastic epidermis you may get by technique of with much less better epidermis folds. I artwork with a woman who has at present lost 70 lbs very rapidly, and she or he does not have any loose epidermis. She's merely 23, nonetheless, and in no way had a toddler. I could allow you to comprehend something approximately gastric bypass, nonetheless. Our wellness facility's ICU hasn't been getting very many sufferers at present, because of the fact we're not doing an excellent style of cardiovascular surgical procedures anymore. the lack of ICU sufferers is inflicting a considerable issue with the wellness facility budget. they want an excellent style of actually unwell sufferers, and that they want them quickly. guess how they have desperate to scientific care that issue?! They employed a guy who's going to start doing gastric bypass surgical treatment. it relatively is a surefire thank you to get an excellent style of heavily unwell sufferers very rapidly. even nonetheless he's a stable physician and has above-established effects, gastric bypass surgical treatment is surprisingly volatile. each and all of the ICU nurses and ER nurses could bypass to seminars now, the place they study all the problems of the surgical treatment and the thank you to handle them. extremely than having the gastric bypass surgical treatment and risking your existence, you could desire to attempt merely happening the gastric bypass nutrition plan. it might have all the advantageous effects and not one of the undesirable effects of the surgical treatment.

I have 2 friends who had this surgery.
one loved it, she lost weight. Had a normal, healthy pregnancy, lost again. Did wonderfully.
The second was a co-worker. She used to sit and cry about not being able eat more. She was extremely unhappy, but for her, food was an emotional thing, and she has continued to lose, but she is very unhappy.
So, consequently, I believe that your emotional well-being is the most important, with weight being second.
Good luck.

my mother in law had that surgery she is still loosing weight .
you have to have in mind the you will need other surgerys further on like plastic reconstructive surgery and you wont be able to eat like a normal person anymore.
It has pros and cons but your health and hapiness is first.
