on CNN Headline News in the early morning they talk about delays in arrival for the day. last friday the man said they were tracking 1700 planes in the air at that time in our country - 10,000 seems reasonable on a worldwide scale
10,000 times 200 people=2,000,000 seems reasonable out of 6.5 billion even seems like it might bea little low

People don't fly, its the aeroplane that does the flying. The people normally just sit in seats inside the aeroplane. When an aeroplane is out of control and hurtling towards the ground people do tend to fly around a bit though.

You can fly in an airplane! It's on a special plane affectionately called the Vomit Comet. As it plunges towards earth you actually start falling while still inside the plane. That's your chance to fly! This is the only way to simulate weightlessness on Earth. They filmed some of the movie "Apollo 13" inside that plane.

quoting kerrybutters....
10000 planes in air every minute....

and combining with other answers which state that ppl don't fly but sit on their seats

Therefore roughly 20000 people actually do fly all the time. Assuming that every plane has 2 pilots on average.

theres 10.000 planes in the sky at every minute of the day. dont know how many people that would be, but if you calculate say 200 people in each plane that should give a rough idea, i read this in a newspaper.
