We have exploding national debt, a health care crisis, failing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, rising oil prices with no energy policy, depleted oceans, global warming, rising international hate against the US, corrupt elections, unlimited unwarranted spying by the gov't, among a few.

And banning gay marriage takes a top priority? Do even republicans think that this is a critical priority?

No, I'm a heterosexual man happily married to a woman. The point here is why is this a priority?

And if you want to bring up whether gay marriage is an issue or not, why would a married man/woman care if 2 consenting adults want to legally commit to each other? If 2 guys or 2 women get married, it has absolutely nothing to do with my marriage.

i will start by saying that i am a heterosexual male....

but i agree with you.... our government should not be imposing their religion will on Americans!!!! there are too many serious problems happening right now in American than to worry about what people do behind close doors....

but it is the religious right and christian idiots who think that they must impose their beliefs on others..... if you don't believe in gay marriage don't get one.... people have the right to do as they please..... and all this crap about marriage between man and woman being sacred is just crap.... with our +50% divorce rate.....

It's not a priority, it is a piece of legislation, our president is capable of doing more than one thing at a time, maybe congress should learn to multi-task so they can keep up. Global warming isn't going to end tomorrow, if ,in fact, it exist at all. I think you are probably the only one that sees this piece of legislation as a "critical priority", oh and maybe some of the liberals that will bash President Bush when they answer your question. As far as rising international hate against the U.S., I think that is also a very liberal take on things, like if you scream that mantra long enough it will become true!!!!

The Iraq war, the economy, health care are all complicated issues. But gay marriage is such a simple issue that even the average TV-addicted American can understand it. That's the problem with democracy.

Let me guess... You're gay aren't you. Only you guys care about this stuff. In my opinion, gay marriage should never have ever been allowed in the first place, then this wouldn't even be an issue. Besides, why do gays need to be married anyway??? I don't see the big deal with any of this crap... You're right, we got way bigger issues in the world than to be warring with the queers right now.

Smoke and mirrors, its the way George has been running this country for the past 5 and 1/2 years. Its catching up to him though. Even his base is starting to see through the haze.

The bush admin needs an issue it can have moral superiority over.
In other words, they are targeting gays and mexicans because thats what fascist evil does to cover its tracks; make other people out to be the bad guys.

I've asked myself the same question over and over again. We have all these problems going on in this country and we're more concerned with denying some people certain rights because of their sexual orientation.
