Space is expanding at an accelerating rate, and carrying everything along with it. The energy that causes this is called dark energy. What it is is unknown, but it may be a property of space itself.

If it was just the leftover momentum from the big bang, it would gradually slow. The fact that the expansion is accelerating means it's something else.

Intertia...
The Big Bang started with great force and since there is no impeding force to slow or stop the expansion... the universe continues to expand

The answer is a quantum physics phenomenon known as 'vacuum energy' or 'zero-point energy.' Vacuum energy is an amount of energy associated with the vacuum of empty space at scales smaller than 1.6^minus 35 meters.

something time-honored as "inflation." This replaced right into a quick on the spot merely after the vast Bang while area certainly elevated speedier than the fee of sunshine. it is happy with Uncle Albert because of the fact it is area increasing FTL, no longer any mass shifting *by* area FTL.
