coz those guys are old.. and old is gold..

maybe in the year 2106 or later people will refer to Eminem as one of the greatest 'poets' of all time... his name will be taken along with other greats like william shakspeare and all.

it takes time to make legends!

Because there were not as many poets and authors before. Education used to be accessible only for the elite and this made the poets and authors a rare breed. Now education levels in societies are much higher than the time of the sonnets. But you can be famous as a lyricist and songwriter. Thing is you will have to do your homework, copyright your intellectual property (that is, the lyrics/songs) and possibly tie up with good music arrangers and publicists who will promote your songs just to make it stand out above the rest.

Because all of the music being produced today, whether it's the lyrics or composition, all blows. I don't think I can name one band that is played on the radio or MTV within the last five years the is actually good. The music today is targeting a completely different group than poets and writers are targeting. It's all about whats popular now and whats going to make the most money off of the listeners, whether the musician likes their music or not.
