I concur; this is all the product of deep rooted bias. I have no problem with 98% of those who come from Mexico; they work hard and don't complain about alot of jobs none of the general public would even think about doing. They are largely a very religous/faithful group of people, and have very strong family morals. These are all things that the Republicans apparently stand for, so why are they leading the push to keep out people that live life according to their doctrine?
Bottom line, if they work for their food and shelter, pay taxes, and aren't violent (there's always some bad apples) then why the hell can't they share this country with the rest of us immigrants? Let the Indians decide who stays or goes! I guess my Irish/German *** wouldn't be here! LOL
Another thing, the Canadian border and Canada has sheltered more terrorist cells and operatives than Mexico, so everyone knows that is a crock of *@!t. It's uncanny how the government can lie straight to us and the crap filter a.k.a. network news can put in an easy to swallow tablet.

Absolutely not.
This entire immigration issue has essentially been the same for years This is nothing more than a conservative (pro-Bush) issue to keep voters on their side and to attempt to split the Democratic party. Color is not a factor, except to the few died in the wool racists.
The immigration issue as it is related to terrorism (this is in response to an earlier answer) is ridiculous. While I believe that immigration is a matter to be dealt with, it sickens me when the issue is used for political purposes.
And, yes, I do believe that our borders need protecting from terrorists. But that is not what this issue is about.
If they are so worried about terrorism, why are almost none of the 50 states been certified as "terrorist-incident" prepared (I believe that Florida and perhaps one other state has met the requirements)? This, despite the fact that 9/11 occurred 5 years ago. Sad. The Bush administration knows how to keep the public frightened. Most people lack the political savvy to see through this "red-herring."

I think the issue is that some U.S citizens feel threatened about the amount of people who are coming into the country. It’s kind of a phobia where they think that Hispanics are going to continue to grow enormously and take over the culture of the USA. They don’t like the idea of people speaking Spanish and not knowing what they are talking about. Its alienation in there own country. US citizens don’t what to have to adjust there way of life to accommodate the culture change that is taking place with the issue of immigration. Race plays a role because when you talk about the immigration issue, people often refer to Latinos. But its not just white people who resent illegal immigration, blacks do too. Blacks know that they will no longer be the larges group of minorities in this country in a few more years to come. I feel that this is an important moment in this country history because we witnessing a culture shift. These new immigrants’ illegal or not are growing. You can shut the boarder now but the seeds have already been planted. This is just the first generation of people that are going to live work and be apart of this great country. They will have children here who will be the next generation of a better educated more powerful group of people. They will be born in the US and grown up with there mixed culture and become the next congress men, CEO’s, Judges, Presidents, and powerful leaders who will Just as American as everyone else but LATINOS.

The TRUTH is that we are all on this big ball together floating around in space. There is more then enough resources on the Planet to take care of it's self. The true problem is the desire to control something, and it might as well be other human beings, even though God's word only talks about dominion over animals and fishes, etc. not each other. We should really be trying to put all of the great minds together to create a utopia here on Earth, but that won't happen until God Himself sets up His Kingdom here.
Man without TRUTH to guide him can only depend on his personnel resources and that doesn't seem to have time for working on Universal problems at this time. Finding the TRUTH within will enlighten you to the TRUTH about the borders
First step is to reconnect to the Father then begin your journey to an eternal blessed existence both here and beyond. And there ain't no borders between countries and Planets or even Universes in that mind set. Come on in the water is fine.

You don't think that millions of immigrants that bypass the careful limits of immigration is a problem? It doesn't matter what color people are, if large, uncontrolled numbers of them start coming in, that's going to be a problem.
It's not a problem with Canada simply because Canada has a vibrant economy and a stable civilization so they don't have a compelling need to join us Yankees. Consequently there aren't millions of them trying to emigrate.
Now, of course, these are my own thoughts. Everyone has different reasons and motivations for what they believe. Are there prejudiced people out there who are motivated by that prejudice to stop immigration? Absolutely. But it's not the only compelling reason to thwart illegal immigration.

It is just racism. People imigrate mostly for economical problems, that most of the times, honestly, are caused by the same countries they immigrate to!
AND no one complains when they can hire someone for less than the minimum wages, without paying any taxes or social security and without them having any rights!!
On the other hand, the immigrants that accept this conditions do it because they do not really have another choice, they need to survive and they have a right just like someone who´s born in the host country to have a dignified life, food on their tables, a roof over their heads.
The real cause for immigration is the greed of the rich countries, when they will learn to share their wealth as they should most people will stay in their homelands, close to their loved ones!!

No... the immigration issue is far more complex that the color of a person's skin. Although the majority are, many of the 12 million are NOT hispanic. It's irrelevant. They come here to survive. Our government is dumb enough to give them freebies in some places... blame the government. If you could get freebies you would take them too... especially if your family was starving. There needs to be reform, no doubt about that, but these are PEOPLE, who have come for a better life. Has nothing to do with the skin color. Our country, for the most part and as a whole, I believe has matured beyond such nonsense as prejudice of skin color.

Are the 12 million Canadians taking seats in our public classrooms, demanding free medical care and food stamps? Then yes, alot of us would be up in arms. Immigration is not the problem, the problem is ILLEGAL immigration! If you would like to live in this country, try doing it legally not sneaking over our borders in the middle of the night like a common thief!!!

It's not white vs. brown.......It's about welfare programs being sucked up when this country has enough homeless, and persons in need of medical care that can't be gotten because our systems are overrun by those that refuse to abide by the laws that make us AMERICANS!!!!! As long as any immigrant is here legally, they are entitled, but I don't work my *** off to go without benefits so someone else can have benefit of my tax dollars.

Actually it wasn't an issue until Bush and the Republicans made it one. The Vice pres shooting someone only distracted people for a week... they needed something they could ride till the next elections - It's all smoke and mirrors to distract us from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq... not to mention the price of gas and that screw up with fema in New Orleans.
