Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. Buddy Guy may be a close second. Clapton, when he's in blues-mode, may just about tie.
Jeff Beck is probably the most technically proficient guitarist but I'd hardly consider him blues. Jimi Hendrix was the best showman. Keith Richards is the best rhythm guitarist and master
of the open tunings but definitely Stevie Ray for overall blues guitarist. Man, what a loss!

No. He's not the greatest ever. The greatest living guitar player is Jeff Beck.

Check out Roy Buchanan - Second Album if you can find it or anything by Mike Bloomfield! They are in the same league as Vaughn.

No.
The greatest guitarist of all time regardless of genre.
Did you know he played rythym guitar and lead guitar simultaneously on some songs?

He's certainly one of the best, but it makes me kind of sad to think of him. We had great seats and saw him a few weeks before he died. It started pouring rain and he switched to Couldn't Stand the Weather mid song.

It gets kinda fuzzy when you start using superlatives like "greatest". When it comes down to it theres only so much you can judge objectively then it's just opinion. my opinion..YES he is but not far behind is eric clapton.
