David Thompson was known as "Skywalker", because he has a 48 inch vertical leap. The alley oop pass was basically invented because of his leaping ability. Hed led NC State to the 1974 Championship. He later played for the Nuggets in both the ABA and the NBA. He also played for the Supersonics. I'm assuming that 48 inches is tops all-time...BTW he was Micheal Jordan's basketball role model....Hall of Famer.
As the chairman said; Micheal Wilson has dunked on a 12 ft basket, which I just read in FHM magazine. Wilson is a part of the Harlem Globetrotters. Not quite sure of his size, but he's a big boy, so I'm not sure about his vertical leap, and he's never played in the NBA from what I understand.

Nope...you took the words right out of my mouth. I can't believe people thumbed you down for stating FACTS. Just look how many people, who said something positive about Kobe, were given thumbs down. Then, look at how many people were given thumbs up for saying positive about Lebron. So many haters for Kobe. Anyways, I choose Kobe because he has ALREADY won pretty much everything you can in NBA. On the other hand, Lebron is still young and has the POTENTIAL to be as good if not better than Kobe. I think ill take the already accomplished player than a player with great potential. Also, physical talent doesnt always translate to being a great player so dont tell me about leaping ability and all that junk. How much do you want to bet i will get a lot of thumbs down for this answer cuz I said positive things about Kobe and negative things about Lebron? LOL

There are no formal records kept regarding this ability, but I'd bet some players have had standing verticals well in excess of 40"
This site claims a Michael Wilson dunked on a 12ft Hoop

VInce Carter at 44 inches. Spud webb just look like h jumped high because of how short he is. They didnt even have a scale to measure back in the spud webb days, when carter dunked in the dunk contest they used an accurate measuing tool.
