Because they were 'common' and crude and eventually became untouchable in high society. And as for English swear words, I believe you can accredit the Anglo-Saxons with that.

i have no idea who made them swear words,yet think they sound bad because they are negative words and it is better to use intelligent words to describe how one feels.
