Companies such as J.C. Whitney, Autozone sell several aftermarket cruise control kits, many of which are actually made by a single company called Rostra. If you have any doubt that your vehicle can generate sufficient vacuum volume, consider an electric kit not a vacuum kit.

The kit consists of a servo box containing an electric motor-operated throttle actuator and a microprocessor board, a vehicle speed sensor for the brand of vehicle you specify at the time of order, a turn signal or dash panel mounted control head and a bag full of misc hardware. Installation consists of attaching the actuating cable to the throttle linkage, mounting the servo box somewhere convenient, setting some switches in the servo for the application at hand, installing the speed sensor on the speedometer drive (if needed) mounting the control head and providing power to the unit.

Since your vehicle does not have an electronic speedometer or electronic transmission, you’ll need to mount magnets on the drive shaft for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

If you are an experienced mechanic and familiar with your vehicle, you can perform all the work in about an hour (except the magnets on the driveshaft, which requires some effort to get correct).

Yes, Dana make an aftermarket cruise control for vintage (carburated) vehicles. is this the single or multi-carb model (which way is the car aspirated)? If you have the multi's, you will need to build a small jumper linkage from one car to the next, in series. Brazing rod works great and is readily adjustable (needle nose pliers) or you can use a coat hanger (the brass coloured ones, NOT the aluminium ones) if you can't find any rod. The multi's do take a LOT of tweaking to level out the response of each carb from the main linkage but it is well worth the time and expense on those long trips!!

Yes, search yahoo for aftermarket cruise control kits - watch what you buy and how it works - some have safety features, some do not, some work with almost anything, some are specific.
