Global dimming is the gradual reduction in the amount of global hemispherical irradiance (or total solar irradiance) at the Earth's surface, observed since the beginning of systematic measurements in 1950s. The effect varies by location, but worldwide it is of the order of a 5% reduction over the three decades from 1960–1990. This trend has reversed during the past decade. Global dimming creates a cooling effect that may have partially masked the effect of greenhouse gases on global warming.

Global Dimming comes from pollution. Its much different from the Green House Affect. In some ways, we should be temporarily grateful but again temporarily grateful. Global Dimming cools the earth but in a fraudulent sort of way. Its keeping the Green House Temperatures from impacting the earth to their fullest ability; masking our present consequences. Many scientific models of global warming give us until the end of the century and then its going to be too late. What if we underestimated the Green House Affect because Global Dimming sent us a fraudulent message? Global Dimming cools the earth 1-1.5Farenheight and protects us from the trapped heat in the ozone.
When you look up at the pretty blue sky and see all those clouds now imagine, on the back on these clouds is a mirror. This mirror was created by pollution. This mirror reflects back some heat from the sun and most of the trapped heat from the Green House layer. So we have analyzed the Green House and its direct impact, with a false sense of security, "Heck, we have less than a hundred years to change, so we got time." What we didn't realize is, the Green House should be affecting the earth much more, but Global Dimming has temporarily rescued us. Is it too late?
If we cut back on pollution, the Global Dimming affect will get lesser. With less pollution, the trapped heat from the Green House will impact the earth even more. It is very possible that we have underestimated it so much, that in 25 years we may see Louisiana, Florida, New York under water. We may see the Amazon forest go up in flames, due to the 5 degree increase of earths temperature. Quote from Nova website, "Climate researcher James Hansen estimates that "global dimming" is cooling our planet by more than a degree Celsius (1.8°F) and fears that as we cut back on pollution, global warming may escalate to a point of no return." Our children may not have a livable earth soon.

There's a lot of pollution particles in the atmosphere and they are blocking out the sun. Not a whole lot, not enough for us to notice, but enough to lower the temperature around the world, but mostly in areas with heavy pollution. It appears to be balancing out the greenhouse effect of other pollutants. Some people think they are actually working together, without one we would have overheating, without the other over cooling.
