The following website provide how mathematics, specifically the quadratic formula, is used in weaving fashionable designs.

When you buy a pattern, the back gives measurements to indicate what size you should buy. It also tells how many yards of fabric to buy. Some fabrics ae 45" wide and some are 60" wide (and can vary from those too) so you need to know how wide the fabric is so you buy enough to cut out the pattern. You may also need to allow for shrinkage of the fabric; its a good idea to pre-shrink the fabric before you cut the pattern out.
If you are designing clothes, pattern making involves lots of measurements, to make patterns in the right sizes. Then you also need to add the "seam allowance " to the edges of your pattern, usually 5/8" seam allowance.
You should buy a pattern at a fabric store & read it.

Math is used to calculate seam allowances, to draft patterns to divide circumferences of bodies into pattern pieces that only are 1/4 bodies, adding or subtracting hems, taking measurements, drawing darts involves angles. That's just a 10 second explanation. You should really research this yourself so that you understand fully how math is used in pattern drafting. That's not even including the business math used in fashion merchandising (that's part of a fashion business too!)

When designing you must know the dimensions of the outfit. You must also be able to measure and be able to tell how much material you are using when you sew the fabric together also how much to buy. You also must know if the outfit is going to be to heavy to keep up and you need to know degrees to know what angle the needle needs to go in at. Hope that helps.

You have to measure the length and width, and then the number of designs on the outfit.

Measurements, you need to know how many yards of fabric you need to make clothing, sizes vary from an infants to an adults (which come in many sizes-reason prices are higher for bigger sizes than smaller). You need measurements in inseams of pants, shorts, etc. For long versus petites sizes.
