It is a well-known fact that babies dream. While young babies sleep cycles are different than adults, they *do* have dreams.
And babies do *not* smile from gas. From birth, babies have an instinctive smile that happens automatically when they feel contented. Gas will make them grimace--it only looks anything like a smile to real cynics--*never* to a loving parent!

I'm positive that they dream. Our 5 month old son has even had nightmares and woken up in the middle of the night!
I also read somewhere that they dream once they are born. However, these dreams mostly consist of them being in the womb since this is what they remember most.

My answer would be yes. I have a 4 month old and she definitely dreams. She has even "talked" in her sleep, and has recently started crying in her sleep. I think she is possibly having nightmares.

They dream happy dreams, and have nightmares. I remember watching my kids smile and curl their lower lip down very cute. I think they replay some things that happened during their days.

uhh i hate when people say th ebaby is smiling becasue of gas! My baby smiles because she is happy and I think she dreams about us while she sleeps and that is why she smiles in her sleep!

I heard (my grandma told me) that when baby smiles and plays when they're sleeping, it means they are playing with the angels in heaven and they can still see them because they still have their innocence. We adults cannot because we are fully immersed in a sinner lifestyle, therefore removing ourselves from being that close to the angels and God. :)

I think so, all of my kids smile and laugh in their sleep. They even make faces. I think it's so cute.
