Only fools win. Odds of winning are too long. You stand a better chance of being struck by a car than winning the lottory. You would be better off investing in a Money Market fund or Mutual Funds.

Yes, I think the lotteries really do pay out the prizes. They get very good publicity the larger the prize. The odds are worked out beforehand so that they average person will lose money. It's similar to a casino. They may lose money here and there from lucky people but if enough people play over the long run, they'll make money.

Since it's a negative expected value, I have not purchased a lottery ticket.

I have never won the lottery, and very few people do. You're more likely to be hit by a meteor than to win a multi-million dollar jackpot. I've also heard that many people who have won the lottery squander the money. Your best "bet" in life is to get a good education, get a good job and work hard.

Well if you think about it no. People don't win millions of dollars from the lotto because Uncle Sam takes most of it anyway by the time that you do get it. I would say people do make money off of winning the lotto but,I personally don't think that they make millions. And No I have never won the lotto the closet I got to that was winning on scratch off tickets. But,good luck to those who have won and those who want to win.

IF YOU WIN THE LOTTEREY YOU WIN TAXES, PAYMENT PAYOUTS AND HEADACHES. HAVENT YOU READ ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO'VE WON ONLY TO BE BROKE, IN DEBT, IN JAIL, OR A SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEM? JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO A MAN WHO WON THE LOTTERY HERE IN FLA. WAS ARRESTED FOR THEFT AND DRUGS. HES BROKE AND ON HIS WAY TO JAIL. THE GOV. TAKES A HUMUNGOUS AMOUNT OFF THE TOP, THEN THE STATE. AFTER HIRING A LAWYER TO HELP WITH ALL THAT AND TRYING TO PUT IT WHERE YOU'LL HAVE SOMETHING TO GENERATE AN INCOME TO LAST THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE YOU DONT HAVE AS MUCH AS YOU MAY THINK. THEN ADD IN "CRAZY" SHOPPING. YOUR GOING TO GO OUT AND BUY ACOUPLE OF BIG TICKET ITEMS! YOU JUST WON THE LOTTO!!!!! I HAVENT WON, BUT DO HAVE A FRIEND WHO DID AND IT WAS MORE HEADACHES THAN PLEASURE FROM HIS VIEW POINT. I'VE PROBABLY BUILT THREE SCHOOLS WITH MY DONATIONS TO THE "QUICK PICK" ON TWO DAYS A WEEK. IF YOU WIN LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FAIR---------GOOD LUCK!

Of course, some do. But there aren't many so most of us don't know anyone who has. I surely wouldn't bet my retirement on it. I think you have a better chance of being struck by lightening.
They will definately take in way more money than they pay out or they wouldn't do it. They have to make a profit. The taxes are alot! As much as half! But I would rather thave 1/2 a million than nothing. Not to mention if they take the option to collect it over a period of years, they will have to pay taxes on every payment they recieve.

NO, I never win. Sure a few people win millions of $ from lotteries, but I stress VERY FEW. I sure would be doing other things besides being on this computer if I would have won. I never win anything.

Never played, people can win millions but can also lose it through not planning. Taxes will eat up a great deal of the money as well

Depending on how they accept it and the taxes that are paid. Winning a million yes, net is usually less after the taxes, etc. Most people spend it within 10 years.

I do believe that people win the jackpot from time to time but the amount of money that the state lottery receives from the frenzy over buying people buying all of these tickets is, in many cases, so much larger than the actual jackpot. However, being one of those frenzied people myself I hope to win a jackpot someday.
