Go to a social security or an SSI Headquarters, tell them the facts, and if you need another department , for example, Health and Human Services, they will send you there, prepare the way, direct you, perhaps do the paperwork, and generally guide you in the right direction. Departments work together to provide help for the public as needed.

What state do you live in ?If you have no varifiable income,Then you are indigent this means you have no way to support yourself. If you have no means of supporting yourself then you qualify for medicaid or medicare and or your states medical insurance. If this surgery needs to be done immediatly and can not work till its done this makes you disabled.Have that ER Doctor check you in to the hospital for surgery and they will have a social worker come right to the hospital. If the doctor says you need this surgery to live it is not an elective surgery. No income this Qualifies you for state aid and possibly Federal Aid.They Have to do the surgery if you need it and even if you don't get full coverage the hospital HAS to take what you give them and you can negotiat the price of the surgery After the surgery

I live in a big city and we have one free hospital but it only give free ER treatment...Obviously you do not really want to wait until you are in a life or death situation. However, if you too have a free hospital I would ask how to get free or discounted surgery.

ALSO - many hospitals have a charity fund to help people pay bills. First you talk to the bill collectors and ask them to reduce your bill by half and usually they might because so few people ask. Then you apply for the charity fund with the rest.

These ideas are not to be abused but are to help if you really need help...but I agree gallbladders are no little thing...they hurt when they stop working right.

Yes, there are. Speak with the hospital about this. Most regional hospitals DO offer assistance of some kind, either in the form of loans or debt forgiveness. A friend of mine was given assistance for having her tonsils removed. It does not need to be an absolute life or death emergency either, but it must NOT be for cosmetic surgery. I suggest you call the hospital and ask.

I know in New England, the Darthmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is very helpful with financial aid. If you qualify then you are given medical care for any services they provide, providing it is medically necessary. No cost. Zip, Nada. They helped me. You don't even get a bill. Nothing. Good luck.

General and Laparoscopy Surgery(including gall bladder surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges all types of surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all types of surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your gall bladder surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.hope this helps.

If you have no income or assets you need to contact your state Medicaid office. That is what they are there for.
