Mother and father are NEVER capitalized UNLESS they begin a sentence OR unless you are using the terms to take the place of their name. Never after a possessive pronoun such as my or their or your.

When that's not the name you refer to them as.
Like if you call your mother "Mom", it's capitalized, but if you're just saying "my mother is blah..." then it's not capitalized.

They're capitalized if used in place of a name, e.g. I told Mom my favorite vegetable is corn.
Not capitalized otherwise, e.g. my mom knows I like corn.
