I know this may sound stupid, but I think Mel Gibson would've been better in the role. Not because he would've done better, but because the casting choice for the role of "Silas" was so good, that he out acted Hanks. Had it been Gibson, I think he would've added a little more depth to the character.

Well Tom didn't even match how they described the character in the book. The girl didn't match Sophie's description either. I would have picked Russell Crowe.
